Snăɣiérd

The Snăɣiérds are a recent, aberrant race that was created as sentries by the Mind Flayers when their Legion's siege of N'orvan was well underway. Fortunately, however, the Snăɣiérds were quick to reject the rule of the Legion of Monsters and now live their lives as a tribal race of shamans. Snăɣiérds typically live in huts that resemble the oversized shells that adorn their heads and tend to attract Outlanders, Drow, Vedalken, and various beastfolk tribes with their heavily percussive tribal music. It is not wise to draw forth your weapon with the intent to strike one down, for the Snăɣiérd of whom you've threatened will cast a spell that will transport you to another plane of existence. However, If you are willing to listen to their tribal wisdom, they will reward you with a new magic item, or offer to enchant your weapons/armor/tools with various arcane shards.

Basic Information

Anatomy

An adult Snăɣiérd takes on one of two forms depending on gender. The females have a humanoid body plan with an oversized snail shell that would hinder their balance if it weren't for their psionic capabilities, whereas the males resemble nautiloids that hover above the ground and possess no mouth. Because of this, the males serve the same purpose in life as a male deep-sea anglerfish.

Genetics and Reproduction

They reproduce by copulation and typically lay eggs

Growth Rate & Stages

females: larvae -> snail -> cocoon -> adult -> elder -> husk
males: larvae -> snail -> cocoon -> █████ producing parasite -> husk

Ecology and Habitats

Snăɣiérds reside within the corrupted aberrant forests of N'Orvan. There they work towards restoring the forests to their non-corrupted natural beauty.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Their larvae act as lithovores and become herbivores during the second stage of life.

Biological Cycle

They tend to go into a meditative state during the entirety of winter. Because of this courtship between males and females typically occur during late summer/early fall.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

since the aberrant forests tend to reside nearby deciduous forests and alpine areas, the Snăɣiérd race has a limited habitat.

Average Intelligence

They tend to be exceptionally wise, although, that's not the same as being book-smart.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They possess near-infinite dark-vision allowing them to see with absolute clarity when night falls. The downside of this ability is that they remain purely nocturnal.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

The males act as a █████ producing parasite and typically latch onto the females ██████████ where they remain until they die.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

they are, for the most part, entirely nude, apart from hand made tribal necklaces that are adorned with fragments of bone, rock, feathers, and crystal.

History

Snăɣiérds were created by a group mad scientists that were turned into Mind Flayers by the enigmatic Great Flayer, the supreme leader of the Legion of Monsters. These scientists decided to experiment on the common garden snail (Cornu aspersum) with hopes of creating the perfect sentries for the legion. The first one hundred Snăɣiérds had other plans and made a beeline for the nearest woods, where they could live in peace and harmony with nature. The Great Flayer was outraged by this transgression and ordered the corruption of all forests within N'Orvan. Ever since the legion's fall, the Snăɣiérds act as the healers of the forests and are working to return them to their unspoiled, natural beauty.
