The Letters of Phalia

Long before the Oodast Empire rose to prominence, a series of love letters were discovered in a lockbox under the earth where the Emperor would eventually have his seat of power. It took years to decipher the letters, but once the contents were translated, a book was published and became incredibly popular amongst young women and older men.   The letters, spanning years of communication, contained the desperate words of star-crossed lovers. One was the dangerous Warchief Gohaluk, an Orc warlord that had worked tirelessly to join the various clans together in resistance to the growing Oodast Empire. The other was a young elven woman from a powerful merchant family who was only ever referred to as Sweetpea. The letters showed the sad reality the lovers existed in, forced to be apart as Gohaluk tried to keep his people free and Sweetpea was married to the heir to another merchant empire.   In spite of their diverging paths, they stayed in touch with each other, speaking fondly of the days that they would spend together once the Wild Hills were safe. There were playful jokes about him riding in on his powerful wolf and stealing her away, about her needing to impress his numerous aunts and matrons, and the silly things that happened in their lives.   The final letter was from Sweetpea and it was never sent. It was only two lines and the world weaved around the sweet letters was shattered. "I watched the guards mount your head on the walls of the city today. Good bye, my beloved."    No one was sure how the letters were collected and buried beneath the gardens of the Capitol City, but the populace agreed that their tragic love story was worth being remembered. Many young half-orcs took comfort from the tales, whispering excitedly amongst themselves about the possibility of being related to the late Warlord and, maybe, possibly, be an unknown descendant of an unknown child of Gohaluk and Sweetpea.   Gohaluk is still a very popular name amongst half-orcs with an elven mother. Strangely enough, Orcs took to calling their lovers "Sweetpea", but they were unwilling to explain why.
