Discordians

Centuries ago in ancient Greece human beings worshipped mystical entities that they called gods. While the Greeks worshiped hundreds of gods, few, if any, worshiped Eris, the goddess of discord. Possibly because of this lack of worship, or because of some other snub—Eris was always a fickle goddess—Eris left Baseline Earth Reality behind and voyaged out into the omniverse at large. Though she continued to interact with living beings on other worlds, even causing entire civilizations to come into being, Eris seemed to have lost all interest in Earth.   Then, in 1958, Eris interfered in human affairs again when she sent a mystic vision to two young men in a bowling alley in Whittier, California. The two young men, under the names Malaclypse the Younger and Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst, wrote the Principia Discorida, the foundational text of a religion called Discordianism. Discordianism grew over the years, attracted adherents from all over the world, though it has never become more than a fringe religion. Today there are many branches and subsets of Discordian groups, including the Paratheoanametamystikhood Of Eris Esoteric (POEE), the Erisian Liberation Front (ELF), the Legion of Dynamic Discord (LDD), and the Inscrutable and Esoteric Order of Eris Ascendant (IaEOoEA).
