HEROPUNK: Golden Mask

Ulem wants to take over the world using mind control but has difficulty becouse is weak to Midas' gold. THEME: With great power comes great responsibility. (Past should not be forgotten.) (The American Dream).   The portal where Ulem comes from is trapped beneath Midas Beach. Silver Innovations is mining the gold for public use and for their experiments, not bearing responsibility freeing the dimensional being's conciousness more and more, till its influence is too great. Only Midas' Jewel, "the sorcerer's Stone", can stop it.         1960's America is in turmoil. A few decades ago, superheroes started appearing in the world, seemingly from nowhere. The first -- and greatest -- of them all, Golden Mask No. 1, Midas, along with other heroes, won the World War II for America in less than a year. America was in the top of the world, no question, and so is the city the original ten defenders of justice in the American way -- the Golden Ten -- amongst others, work with the city's law enforcement, but the question of vigilantism soils relations. The City booms, becoming an "America within America", a representation of the American Dream and the new living heroes. Then Midas destroyed that dream by turning a lake to gold; it became worthless, though pretty. The economy collapsed, but a Corporation was suprisingly ready to switch the currency to silver, seizing the remains of the economy. Somehow, the old heroes disappeared, leaving behind stones whitch hold their powers. Most of them ended up in the city's exploding criminal underworld, mafia families who control the city. Can the ideals of heroism, still spoken of in pulp magazine's Golden Mask and Golden Mask illustrated, be found again, or will the world be brought to ruin?
