Yellow Emperors and the Four Guardians

Jiuyuan.

The Yellow Emperor was the ruler and creator of water. All the water he created was found in his personal realm, Jiuyuan, which translates to the Nine Origins. Outside of his realm, there was no water in the world of Heliodarna. After the insistence and continued pleas from multiple gods from all the pantheons, he agreed to impart the waters onto the world, but he had his conditions. He didn’t believe that any of the gods could properly rule over and control the waters and oceans that he would create in Heliodarna, so he decided to test the gods. If they could penetrate his defences and create a breach into his realm, he would impart the waters into their world.
Umberlee, Urun, Poseidon, Sobek, Tangaroa, Oceanus and Deep Sashelas worked together to form the powerful artifact, the Threshold Trident. They all imbued it with their powers to break open a gateway between Heliodarna and Jiuyuan. Satisfied with their ability, the Yellow Emperor allowed the water to flow from the gate. Understanding the power of the water, the Yellow Emperor split the power of the water to the 7 gods and he put in place a ritual that they would need to uphold. One of the 7 would rule over the oceans on the throne that the Yellow Emperor made for them. They would communicate with the Yellow Emperor and control the amount of water gets released into the world. The Yellow Emperor knew, however, that it would be too much for a single god to control for too long of a time, so he created the Ocean’s Crowning ceremony. Every 333 years, they would change the god or goddess on the throne through a ritual.

Trident Isles.

The Threshold Trident that was used to pierce into Jiuyuan slowly began to be covered in the rising waters that entered through the gate. The Yellow Emperor left the Trident as a gate connecting the two realms, but removed to pole that was attached to it, leaving the three prongs in place. The Trident, after being covered in the water, became a group of islands that was eventually named the Trident Isles. The Yellow Emperor build a throne and a doorway on the island, allowing the water to flow from Jiyuan to Heliodarna through it. The Trident Isle became the place that the reigning sea god of the time would reside and communicate with the Yellow Emperor. The Trident itself also gave the people living on the Isles more connection to the water, strengthening them.

The Four Serpent Guardians.

Understanding the power of the Threshold Trident, and also the fickle nature of gods, the Yellow Emperor decided to break up the Threshold Trident as a backup plan. Using his powers to take a part the Trident, he formed 5 powerful items that could be used to restrain the reigning sea god if they abused their power. He then sent his children, the Azure Serpent, The Red Serpent, The Black Serpent and the White Serpent, to guard 4 of the powerful items. He also sent them to take control of each of the four oceans created within Heliodarna. They were to work with the reigning sea god, helping them control the sea and all of its inhabitants.
The Black Serpent presided over the Reorta Ocean to the North. Living inside an onyx made palace, he created a city deep in the ocean at the bottom of a Glacier. He had a reclusive, introverted nature. Understanding his role that was given by the Yellow Emperor, he hid himself and the item he was given. The people that worship him do not concern themselves with what is going on outside of their city. They keep to themselves, only caring about the inner machinations of the city. The White Serpent presided over the Eningi Ocean to the South. He lives in a pure, white crystal palace and built his city by the coral reefs. Taking the mission given to him, he carries out his duty with firm sense of purpose. As a knowledgeable and intelligent individual, the White Serpent prided himself and his people being a diligent, controlled and strategic group of people, skilled with planning and preparation. The Azure Dragon presided over the Panora Ocean to the East. She lives in a beautiful blue and green gemmed palace and created the city of Azuria. She was the free spirit of the Four Guardians, prioritizing freedom and fun. She isn’t a big fan of strict rules, regulations and restrictions. Although she understands the importance of her mission, she also believes that too much focus on it will ruin the purpose of living which is to enjoy yourself. Her people are a cheerful, friendly and sociable bunch of people that like to go with the flow. The Red Serpent presided over the Koroto Ocean to the West. He lives in a rubied palace and built his city near a deep volcanic trench. He is the strongest fighter of the Four Guardians. He believes in strength and power. If he and his people are truly strong, then the mission he was given will be easy. If someone can defeat them, then they are worthy to take the item. His people are an aggressive, tribal and strong group of people.

The Aquatic Flames.

In the Koroto Ocean, the territory of the great Red Serpent, there is a deep, volcanic trench. During a battle between the Red Serpent and one of the descendants of Poseidon, the Red Serpent slayed it and a flame burst forth from the heart of the creature. As they were underwater, the Red Serpent was astonished that the flame was able to stay lit. As he approached it, he felt a powerful aura coming from it. He sensed danger, knowing that this flame actually had the capability to harm him, an ancient guardian. He managed to move it and store it safely within the volcanic trenches by his rubied palace. Although he never managed to discover the purpose of the Aquatic Flame, he guards it warily. Other than him, the only ones to know of the flame is the Yellow Emperor, and Poseidon, who was the one that was ruling over the Oceans at the time the Aquatic Flame was found. Although it came from the heart of one of his descendants, Poseidon told the Yellow Emperor and the Red Serpent that he didn’t know where the flame came from. Whether he actually knows the origins of the flame, it is unknown except to him.
