Aketa (a.k.a. The Oracle Of Bouria)

The Oracle Of Bouria, her birth foretold by the previous Oracle. As with all others before her. When she has been discovered and accepted by the Gods as their Eklektós (Chosen) she begins to take the place of the current Oracle. Causing the current Oracle, to begin showing her age, becoming old and withered. All Oracles are taken from their household at a young age, around 13-17 and begin the ritual known as “Chosen Sight”. For an Oracle can never look a day older than the day she completes the ritual, from that day on she retains the same youthful look. Until the day a new Oracle shows up to replace her, then she will begin to lose her looks and change back into her normal self. An Oracle can die from old age, they are not gifted with immortality like some others. They are mortals, as you or I, they are merely gifted with the appearance of youthfulness. Before the end of their days, a new girl will be chosen. To be born by the next full moon, the Cult of Foresight oversees the retrieval of this girl and integration into the Temple.

”Chosen Sight”

This ritual is very simple to conduct, but it takes a serious toll on those who take it. Although the coming of a new Oracle is foretold, it must still be proven that they are in fact that Gods Chosen. To do this, the initiate has to drink a specially prepared potion by the Cult of a Foresight. After drinking this potion, the effects are wildly unknown. However some people speculate that it causes the initiate to have conversations proving their worth to the Gods. This ritual is complete when the initiate returns back to the mortal world, turning her hair white, and her eyes blind. The blindness in the Oracles eyes allows them to see through the Gods eyes, ensuring she fully understands what they desire. There have been some cases of people losing their daughters to the cult, and never seeing them placed as an Oracle. However, they are never seen again. It is speculated that the process is deadly if they are rejected by the Gods, but they are granted the highest of honours amongst Grecian religion if they are accepted. It is because of this, that most girls do not pass up the opportunity to begin this ritual.

Purpose

The Oracle is there to serve as a gateway between the Gods and the mortal world. She will deliver messages for them, and attempt to enact their will upon the world. Whatever that may be. People seek out the Oracle, in an attempt to have their future told. It is said that once you have been told the future by the Eklektós, nothing can be done to change it, and that it is by the Gods will that it must happen.
