The Joint Paths
There are areas between the Octants that technically do not belong to any of them. These are nevertheless looked after and patrolled by the Centre Octant. These areas are known as the Joint Paths, areas that connect the various Octants.
Purpose / Function
The Joint Paths are both the areas that connect the Octants, as well as the areas that people enter the city from.
Upon birth, an individual is to be registered in Helstav’s register of citizens. There are Zones of Truth at every entrance to Helstav, as well as into every Octant. At every such Zone, there are five guards, at least one of whom on every shift must be an Elf, and one of whom has been trained by the Order to see invisibility. They ask for the intentions of every person that wishes to enter or exit an Octant. The same applies if anyone wishes to enter or exit Helstav. If it is discovered at any entrance point that someone has malicious intentions, they are also taken to the Centre Octant and imprisoned while a judge looks over their case.
Alterations
There are teleportation circles in every Octant, seven each, leading to all the other Octants. These have been included in the Octants as a means to be able to freely move between Octants quickly. The teleportation circles in Helstav only function between Octants, however. Any teleportation into or out of Helstav is not just forbidden, it is impossible, due to the extensive defensive runes surrounding Helstav.
