The Jaedyr
The Jaedyr are a collection of mystical monster hunters. Augmented through various mutation that make them more beast than man and then through Arcane means to give them basic access to Arcane abilities and to strengthen their body.
The Jaedyr make their home at Vetur Verki within Kempe Dal. The fortress was a gift to them from a long passed Jarl Halfdan the Proud and though it still stands it is mostly empty. Only 7 true Jaedyrs exist, led by a Jaedyr called Old Bear who some believe to be over 300 years old.
Only 7 true Jaedyrs exist because the Mage who assisted their mutations and Arcane augmentations went travelling and never returned. To make up for this they have introduced a new initiate trial that allows Shieldites to prove themselves worthy of a Jaedyr rune tattoo that allows them to take up monster slaying contracts. Only 1 in 10 Shieldites complete these trials.
Structure
The Jaedyr are a group of modified humanoids, usually from a base race such as humans or elves. Through a ritual that kills more than it changes, the humanoid becomes a Jaedyr, something fuelled by a mixture of natural and arcane magic. The Jaedyr have the ability to produce minor magical abilities and can train these abilities further.
The Jaedyr have a de facto leader but no official title or hierarchy, it is simply the most experienced Jaedyr leads. They used to have higher numbers but the brotherhood has been reduced to but a handful. The Jaedyr would in the past, keep a court mage, one who would assist in the rituals to create new Jaedyr.
Public Agenda
Slay monsters where needed for as much gold as can be offered. A Jaedyr should protect the people but never work for free.

History
The Jaedyr first began when a powerful mage achieved something miraculous when experimenting with human test subjects. The mage had created something entirely different, essentially a new species, they were faster, stronger, healed quicker, innate magical ability and increased senses. These new beings were a combination of beast and man but the beast part became too strong and the first Jaedyr had to be terminated. The mage realised that for the change to work, something was needed to keep the humanity of the person being altered, he enlisted the help of a Druid and a Shaman, the druid to control the beast within and the shaman to maintain the persons spirit during the transformation. This process later became refined into an alchemical concoction that merely required the different magic to be infused into it prior to administering.
The Jaedyr grew and grew, taking young boys who were downtrodden, street rats and orphans. These recruits would be put through the harshest of training, not all would make it through the training, let alone the ritual changing, only 1 in 10 initiates survived the ritual. Many Jaedyr made names for themselves including Wyvern Arm, The Old Bear and Gunnolf. Most famous of these is the Old Bear, for he not only slew a Dragon, but legend says he fought the dragon alone.
