The Depth Miners

A mining corporation of some 1,000 employees, and some speculate over 6 times as many slaves used in the mines that spread deep beneath Oylovka. It was first established when some of the first deposits of Sphxkôl were found, by 2 Dwarf brothers - Thuror & Barirdith Rockbreaker, shortly after being driven underground, and is still held by the Rockbreaker family to this day. They began as a small company eventually turned slavers. They have an unofficial and uneasy alliance with The Steel Ministry who provides the security for their mines & manufacturers their tools and equipment, in return they provide them with copious amounts of Kôl for them to run their forges and industry. In recent years the alliance between The Ministry and Depth Miners has reached an uneasy state. As the Ministries power grows, their dependance upon the mining corporation lessen. The miners know that it is only a matter of time before the ministry turns on them and siezes the mines for themselves - The question is now not if, only when.

History

When the mines first started, not many knew about this newly discovered resource. They were busy burning their small supply of wood & coal that they had stored underground when the surface became uninhabitable. The 2 brothers knew that to fully take advantage of the reserves that they have located they would need to expand their workforce to keep with the soon-to-be demand of the kôl so they began to hire more workers, but as the need for kôl kept rising, the miners knew that they would have to expand further to meet demand. This included turning to slavery, over the years eventually they turned to enslaving the races living in the underdark. Currently the mine "employs" over 4,000 Svifneblens within their mines to continue extracting this abundance of resources. As the concentration of miners grew, so did the chance for rebellion of their miners. So the Depth Miners brokered a deal with the Ministry that they would provide them with resources in exchange for protection. In the Year 600BR, The Union of the Sovereign was signed, starting the agreement between the Depth Miners & the Steel Ministry.
