Octant 1: The Garden
The first Octant of Helstav, The Garden covers the the growth, agriculture and farming within Helstav. As a part of the Octant Sectors, it is essentially a city unto itself with housing for those that work and live within the sectors.
Demographics
60% Elves. 15% Dwarves 15% Human. 10% Other. A few Earth Genasi have found their way from the Shieldlands, and have made this their home.
Government
Though not actually in charge of the Garden Octant, which operates as Helstav’s personal mini pacifistic democracy, with each household getting a vote in the First Assembly, the Aldaron family has long been seen as the de facto leaders. The current head of the Aldaron family is the young Elven maiden Erys Aldaron.
Industry & Trade
The Garden is in charge of farming and agriculture, supplying food for the rest of Helstav. Most people here either tend to the crops and forests here or they tend to the animals.
Infrastructure
The Garden Octant consists of fields upon fields of crops, wheat (and its by-products), and livestock, as well as a veritable forest of trees and piles of lumber. There are seven portals located in the centre of the Octant, each leading to another Octant.
Assets
There are giant mills in the southern part of the Octant that grind the grown grain into flour; agricultural equipment such as ploughs and grain dryers; wagons and many cattle to pull the wagons.
Guilds and Factions
The Garden Octant is filled with larger and smaller villages scattered throughout the Octant. There are three main divisions: The North-Western villages focus on growing wheat & such, the North-Eastern villages focus on raising livestock, and the Southern villages focus on growing crops in general. There are no opposing factions as such, as all villages work together, but there is a certain status in living in the North-Eastern villages as opposed to either the Southern or North-Western villages.
History
The Garden Octant is one of the oldest Octants of the city, created by the Elf Zaos Alderon. Around the time of the founding of Helstav, as the Well Octant was being constructed, a significant portion of the city was dedicated for the sole purpose of feeding the other seven Octants.
Architecture
The houses are fairly simple, often single- or two-levelled houses, grouped together in villages, with building styles varying from village to village. They’re made of cheap materials.
Natural Resources
Crops. They famously produce the best potatoes in Heliodarna. They also produce a varying range of items necessary for the production of alcoholic beverages. They work together with the Dwarves in the Steel Octant to produce the finest ale in the land. They also have all kinds of livestock from sheep, to cows, to pigs, to chickens.
