Hunters of Artemis

The Hunters of Artemis are a group of all-female maidens that have been granted special powers from Artemis herself. They are gifted with faster-than-normal reflexes, excellent range capabilities and hunting skills, eternal youth and enjoy hunting by Artemis’ side. There are prices to pay for this privilege though, as there always is. In order to join the Hunters if Artemis, one maiden must take an Oath swearing themselves to Artemis and their other hunters.

Oath of the Hunters

I pledge myself to the Goddess Artemis, I turn my back on the company of men, accept eternal maidenhood, and pledge myself to the hunt. May my bow never falter and my arrows fly true.
When a maiden has made this Oath and Artemis has accepted it, it is binding for the rest of their life and must live by it for the rest of their days. A Hunter is granted “immortality” to the extent that they will not die from oldage, illness etc. However they can still die in battle, as all hunters should be ready to die. Artemis will also remove ones immortality should a maiden disobey the oath by, for example, falling in love.

Structure

Artemis is the unopposed leader to the huntresses, below her she names a Lieutenant to be the face of the Hunter of Artemis. This rank is dubbed “The Listener” as it is said that Artemis communicates directly with, and only with, her chosen Lieutenant and should that Lieutenant stray from the hunters a new one shall be chosen. There are no ranks below the Lieutenant, every other huntress is equal.

Public Agenda

To seek out and destroy the monsters of the world that would threaten their way of life, and to not intervene in what they would refer to as “mortal affairs”

History

Shortly after Artemis’ birth, she asked to be taken to see her father, Zeus, at the top of Olympia. Zeus had great love for his daughter, and promised her anything she could want for her birthday. Amongst other things, Artemis asked for an all-female group that would follow her, this would mark the beginning of the Hunters. After acquiring a bow and arrows make specifically for her, she assembled her group of followers. Many mortals and Eladrin were delighted at being given the opportunity to hunt alongside Artemis, and to be able to live freely off the wilderness without being pestered by the gods. As a designated protector these young woman, Artemis would punish, even curse, men who even so much as would lay eyes on one of her maidens. Argaeus was the first soul to endure Artemis’ wrath, after coming across the Hunters one day he fell in love with the sight of Artemis and proceeded to announce himself to them and demanding that she marry him. Angered by the words he spoke, Artemis transforms Argaeus into a deer and gathers the attention of the other hunters. Beginning just another hunt...
