Bright Shores

In the furthest reaches of Usilia, in the bright snow-covered shores in the North-East stands a beautiful Elven monument to the arcane studies. The land around it is as desolate as it is beautiful. Ice crystals and snow stand in place of where trees and grass would lie. Snow crystals float around the coast giving it an ethereal and magical appearance that enraptures the soul, but no souls live in the area surrounding Bright Shores. No animals, no people, only a lone large elven keep stands in the shore.   The Bright Shores Magical Academy, commonly referred to as Bright Shores, is Usilia's largest and most famous magical academy where magically-adept citizens from all regions gather to develop their arts and to study the Fey Wild and the creatures that are frequently spotted in the northern region of Usilia, where it is said that the link between the planes is weakened.

Government

When a student of the arcane arts manages to make a great discovery to the Academy's they are promoted to the rank of Far Seer and join the cast of other Far Seers who helped guide and investigate further into the mysteries of the Fey Wilds and its creatures.   Currently the council is consists of thirteen members. The one among them who has contributed the most to new discoveries is the Grand Seer and though he has no greater power or vote among the other members, it is undeniable that he holds a great deal of influence for the others respect him greatly.

Defences

If you sit long enough by the windows of the Academy you will see occasional glints of light as the snow particles that float around the shores hit an invisible barrier. Within the Academy there are numerous mages who keep a barrier active at all times and others who instead of specializing in studies and investigation study the arcane arts for combat and self-defense, some of which even employ and use weapons imbued with magical energies.   Warriors who have learned how to manipulate the planes and use their knowledge to augment their attacks. Powerful casters who are born with innate magical abilities and can effortlessly use high level spells with hardly any training. They are known as the Fenasatirmo (Gateway Watchers), and they are tasked with protecting Bright Shores and leading expeditions into the western regions or ventures into dangerous parts of different planes.

Architecture

The Academy looks like a beautiful amalgamation of towers that sprout out of each other in a natural manner, as if they were ornate stalagmite. The various towers have different heights but one in the center stands taller than the others and lends the building a sense of grace.   To access the Academy through normal means one must traverse the harsh terrain of the shores with freezing temperatures and cross a bridge before reaching it. The front of the Academy building features massive glass windows that span multiple floors and ornate decorative metal patterns that surround them. From the inside the building seems immensely larger as nonsensical rooms appear immensely larger on the inside than they have any right to be. Floating platforms take students and others across multiple floors and animated objects that seem almost sentient maintain the building nice and tidy. The corridors of the upper floors are made out of a shimmering translucent crystal with beautifully intricate railings.   One of the surprisingly large rooms in the building, one that can be accessed through various doors available at almost every level in the very center of the Academy leads to an immense library where all the magical knowledge and studies of Usilia is gathered. It is a place of knowledge and knowledge only, and the only location in which those that try to use magical abilities are unable to do so outside of the Ispinsaila who somehow seem to be immune to this phenomenon.

Geography

Though incredibly beautiful, the area that surrounds Bright Shore is desolate and void of almost all life. Creatures often reach negative zero degrees. No animals of any kind are able to find sustenance as the area is void of all plant life.   From a distance you can sometimes see tree-like structures but if you approach them you will see that they are completely encrusted with the crystals that float around the area. North-west of the academy you will find a concentration of these trees that is regarded as the crystal forest. It is one of the training grounds for the Academy and also a common place of departure for those that venture into the Fey Wilds.   Just as the south-east serves as a gateway to the Yllhehone plane, legends have it that the northeast passage leads to new continent. Though few dare to tread it and none have ever returned the Nicunahta Tarna, Frost-bite Passage in Common, and the frozen bodies of those that attempt to cross it serve as a cautionary tale that keep most from attempting the crossing.
