Perodoru

Among the Elulatros, the Catoblepas is the most important source of food, providing meat and milk for the community. Most families in Elulatros territory tend to own at least a few catoblepas, and children are taught from a young age how to raise and rear the beasts. At the age of seven, a young cyclops will be assigned a calf which they will be expected to care for. Seven years later, when the catoblepas reaches full maturity and it's time for slaughter, the cyclops teenager will be expected to slaughter their catoblepas, which will then be used to cook a large meal as a part of the Perodoru festival, or "First Meal" in old Lukhoran. The Perodoru acts as a coming-of-age ritual for Elulatros youth regardless of gender or class, after which the youth will be considered an adult.

Components and tools

The first item of importance is the catoblepas itself. The child is expected to raise this catoblepas until full maturity, after which a special knife, which is often passed down through the family, is used to kill the catoblepas. After which it will be prepared by the community, usually either the family or friends, who prepare the meat and additional cheeses and fruits into a special meal. The meal itself is made up primarily of various cuts of the catoblepas, typically varying by the preferences of the individual. No parts of a catoblepas are wasted, and someone will eat all parts of it, but for this meal, the child who's having their Perodoru gets the first choice. The one exception to this is the centerpiece, a cooked catoblepas heart.

Observance

There is no specific date when the Perodoru is celebrated. The catoblepas is typically given shortly after the child's seventh birthday, though it can sometimes be given later. Seven years later, when the teenager and the community are in agreement that it's time for the catoblepas to be slaughtered, a date will be picked to carry out the Perodoru.
