Roymar Ardent Character in Helaeron | World Anvil

Roymar Ardent

Grand Prior Roymar Ardent

The first and forebear of the modern incarnation of the Paladin. As freshly ordained Priest. He discovered the archaeological documents on the ancient Paladins of the Sun Elves. Armed with the ancient example. Ardent devised a new kind of Holy Warrior. One that could employ the healing arts of Magic, and the Elite Swordsmanship developed by the Great Weapon Masters of the World. After enduring the Paladins Trials himself. He, together with Alchemysts and Mages refined the rituals. Creating a Holy Warrior that could not be possessed by Daemons. Or if they were, they could trap them inside their own bodies.
Ardent was the first of these warriors. For two decades after his becoming as a Paladin. He fought in the name of the Faith of Aemar the All-Father. Until he saw the disregard of the people. The belligerent demand of donations. And the outright ignoring of cases of possession. Ardent could abide it no more. And sought to disarm the Faith in its time of tyranny. Having a strength that would sever the Faiths militant arm. The Paladins were loyal to him. Not the Clergy. Despite the Oath.
He would break the Order away from the Faith. And become the Vanguard of the Faithful. And the defender of the innocent. And for thirty years. They were. Until Ardents death at the hands of bandits on the Cliffs of the Aldership of Pelreach. The Cliff where he died is known as Ardents Fall now. When he died. The Renunciate Order of Saint Ardent broke apart. Each keeping to Ardents Code. But unable to truly rejoin their Orders without staunch leadership.
