Asmodeus, Archdevil of the Nine Hells has forsaken his children on this plane - other archdevils and demons have stepped in to claim their share of mortal devil spawn.   Human couples all over the Heim began producing unexpected tieflings after an event that became known as the Damning.   Unwanted and cursed children were killed in their cribs, abused and ignored.   During this time, there was a religious movement - the Worship of the Holy Light - begun by the High Inquisitor. She decreed that the archdevil Mephistopheles had cursed the empire and by extension they must get revenge on the Nine Hells - eliminate all those who are connected to the Hells as heretics and monsters.   The ingrained mistrust of tieflings became an outright threat. Tieflings that had tried to integrate into communities were dragged out of their homes and lynched. Those who were imprisoned even for minor crimes were executed to make room for the thousands more who were being dragged in.   The Inquisitor moved the Church from Heigenheim, the capital, to the mountain prison of Nuremgard, to be closer to the prisoners. What was once a peaceful religion became The Inquisition, "cleansing" their country of the blight upon them.   As humans are wont to do, the prejudice spread from the tieflings to the other races that resembled what they feared - dragonborn, kobolds, goliaths, changlings, and goblins among them.
