Bathys System

"It's a graveyard of kobolds. I can't tell ya what happened, but for one reason or another, thousands of them died out here. Are we sure we want to live here?"
- Muscar, representative of Basidio
The Bathys system is a star system consisting of a black hole called Bathys and several unidentified planets, dwarf planets, natural satellites, and small Solar System bodies. There are an unknown number of planets orbiting Bathys. The only planet that has been identified and documented is Heberus, which appears to be inhabitable and is so far the most habitable planet in the system.
As is the case with most supermassive black holes, the Bathys System is located near the center of its respective galaxy. The black hole, Bathys, is surrounded by numerous rings of stars, making it unmissable. Comparatively, the rest of the Bathys System is wreathed in a sea of darkness, devoid of any light whether by stars or Heberus' glowing rings.   The name Bathys comes from the term "bathyal zone," referring to the midnight zone on Earth, where sunlight does not reach. Dr. Ento Hyiw assigned the star system this name when he discovered that very little light touched Heberus' surface. Though the reason is unknown, Heberus remained unidentified for years despite being well within the NWS-Atlas' viewing range. Kobolds appear drawn to the Bathys system, though they have no reason as to why. Arcanists believe that the kobolds sense that something within the Bathys System is damaged. Evidence lending credibility to this theory are numerous traces of space dust, the kind left behind by a kobold's cosmic metamorphosis, found drifting throughout the Bathys System. Though this type of space dust can usually be traced to the kobold that left it, none have been identified.
