Sentinels Military Formation in Hazard City | World Anvil

Sentinels

Created by Eric Zeigler
Sentinels, soldiers who keep watch.   In the 1990s, the US military began losing funding. Soldiers were cut, armor removed, and branches collapsed. The millennium came and went and the cuts continued until the US army could no longer hold a standing force. In the place of thousands, a special force of hundreds remained. Those hundreds were known throughout the world as Sentinels.   The US Sentinels was the last force to integrate into Legion. A specialized operations force with squads made up of ten men. These men were given state of the art weapons and the best intel of the target. Their job was to maintain peace within a state. Their missions ranged, sometimes they attack a region that held chemicals capable of creating enhanced soldiers, sometimes they could be used to get supplies to a city under siege.   Sentinels operated with almost no oversight. The leaders of the squad were given the mission and the intel, and that leader decided how much to tell his squadmates. When in foreign countries the Sentinels did what they needed to accomplish the mission. Because of the lack of oversight, Sentinels have been known to cross some lines. These are rare occurrences, and the majority of Sentinels operate within ethical parameters, with most missions being classified.   When you became the leader of the Sentinel squad you are informed of the oversite and are also told one thing. If you are in trouble, you are on your own. If captured, no one will come and save you. If you are pinned down, no air, naval, or military support will come to reinforce you. What they are not told is it is because the United States Army is unable to send reinforcements.   In 2015 the lack of oversite came to light in a horrific attack within Ghana when a Sentinel force killed several government officials in an attempt to destabilize the region. The evidence, given by both the Ghana Empire and proven by Legion, led to the force being taken from the US Army and pulled into Legion's Praetorian Guard.

Composition

Manpower

Five hundred Sentinels

Equipment

Body armor: Balistic vests along with smaller plates on the arms, legs, chest, and neck. The plates on the arms and legs are able to withstand small arms fire, but anything larger than a nine millimeter round will still penetrate. The chest armor is designed to be flexible, with multiple plates able to stop large caliber rounds.   Standard Night Vision Re-breather

Weaponry

Standard Weaponry: MK17 SCAR, or M-4 Carbine Glock 19   Specialty squads will be given the best layout for those squads. Some will even be given no weapon.

Vehicles

GMV

Structure

The squad will have a leader, along with nine other soldiers. Those leaders are given a large amount of autonomy when in the field. They give a report to a commanding officer for the region.

Tactics

Will depend largely on the squad. Some squads are created to destabilize governments, armies, others for assassination.   All the squads use stealth as their main weapon. With no backup coming, nor any assistance, if they are caught they will most likely die. While they are given a standard layout of weapons and armor few squads us them when gaining entrance into the country. Some squads will even go as far as to come into the country from different directions.   Some squads gather additional information before starting operations. This is by no means necessary because information is provided.

Training

Most Sentinels come from military schools. They are given basic combat training, two weeks of physical, and navigation training, six weeks survival, which will include mental training, concluding with a six-one week course of advance training including, but not limited too, small squad tactics, advance survival escape, resistance, and cultural training.

Logistics

Logistical Support

None. Squads need to be able to function in any environment. They are to get their own food and are to work with the ammo and weapons they carry into the operations.

Recruitment

They found the first four hundred and fifty Sentinels within the basic training course. They offered them the opportunity and entered into the first Sentinel training. The last fifty lead those first squads, they were brought in from other Green Beret squads.
