Salem Settlement in Haven | World Anvil

Salem (Say-lem)

Salem is the main city within the Barrenlands. Formed shortly after King Crevidea was removed from power in Asylum City, the settlement is thriving despite the harsh environment. The people of Salem, while not always seeing eye to eye, understand that they need to work together or they will perish; The Barrenlands are as unforgiving as the creatures that live in it.

Demographics

Salem is mostly made up of long eared humans, with the other residents only being pets, such as thorn hounds and barra lizards, and pests, such as arachcats and mink lizards.

Defences

The settlement is naturally protected by the mountain, having been carved into it. There are multiple machine gun turrets set up in shallow caves along the boarder, each manned by three warriors of varying skill levels.

Industry & Trade

The settlement primarily trades with the extraterrestrial traders that come down from the space elevator, for supplies that they cannot scavenge themselves.

Infrastructure

Salem was carved out of a small mountain on the coast of the desert. Windmills have been constructed to harvest ocean winds to generate electricity. Near them, are water collection basins to collect fresh water, along with a small machine that takes salt water from the sea and makes it drinkable.   In the center is where homes are located, safe from desert winds and sunlight. Most are carved out of the stone, with a few of the homes built from scraps of wood for those who need to isolate from others. In the center of these homes, is the throne room, where King Crevidae resides.   On the desert side of the town, there is a carved out cavern where sand mounts are stored to keep the vehicles safe from the sands when they are not in use.
