Summary

Mr. Sandman was a poor farmer who tended a carrot patch alone with his donkey. One morning a beggar appeared at his door asking for food and drink. They were turned away, times were tough and nothing could be spared. The beggar relectantly left, cursing the farmer's name.   Later in the day the farmer went to wood shed and began to break up firewood. Many logs were split as Mr. Sandman was a large, stout man and quite strong. A crow called, and just then, he heared his donkey screaming as if in great pain. Suddenly it fell silent, and the farmer ran to investigate. Finding his donkey slaughtered, the blood staining the ground, he screamed out in rage. Over the nearby hillside he spotted a figure running away. He pursued and caught up to the assailer and found the same beggar from before. He shook the man asking why, and in his fury, throttled them to death. At that moment, a great sandstorm swept him away into the sky, and in so being killed in such a state of rage, they became an evil spirit.   After that, they prowled the deserts looking for any unweary travelers who stray too far into the sand, to drag them under and pin them into the ground as the angry spirit devoured the victim's flesh.
