Hiris Character in Haustusmora | World Anvil

Hiris

The Mother of the Wilds and Seas, the goddess embodying the soul and makeup of the natural world.   Mother Hiris's reach extends to where all oceans ebb and flow, where the touch of natural life may seep through the very earth itself, and those natural beings which embody the wilds as her children. A reflection of nature's wonder, power, and fury, her touch can be seen in the blossoming of a desert flower, the roar of a cleansing pyre in the midst of a forest, and the vast sprawling expanses of woodland which claim most of Haustusmora. As with the other gods and goddesses, she appears within the various lands in myriad forms, be it an alluring maiden of root and vine that flutters into and between the trees of mighty forests, a raging and unchecked tempest raging the seas, or, more commonly, as the old medicine woman working with her mortar and pestle in a hovel deep within wildernesses surrounded by those she calls her "daughters," The First Druids, the Blood Hags. Mortals and immortals alike who find themselves borne of or connected to the natural lands of the world worship Mother Hiris, be they farmers, hunters, sailors, or the ever-confounding Fey Courts.Worshipers of Hiris celebrate her many visages and sacred roles as healer and nurturer through carved reliefs and multitudes of idols spread throughout the dense wilds of the world and certain rural shrines, as well as gifts of herbs, crops, mortars and pestles, and so on.   In many stories, she is showcased as the lover of both the goddess Iphion and the god Xeres, reveling in the chaos of the storm whilst also striking a balance with civilization. Followers of each god and goddess respect the, at times, tumultuous relationship these entities have between each other, but respect the many gifts that are wrought on the world when the good graces of these gods and goddesses rain down on the world. Understanding her chaotic nature, the druids and rangers who fall under her worship strive to uphold said balance alongside the clerics and creators of Iphion, whilst the warriors and priests who follow the path of the god of storms work to protect the followers of the religious conclave. When any of the three within the love triangle grow furious at the lack of balance in the world, devastating catastrophes erupt to showcase their ire, at least, that is what is murmured amongst the lips of their most cautious of followers.
