The Binding Towers

I bear no grudge nor ill will to you, my brother. There is only love and heartbreak knowing that you are both at peace and have been taken away from us. I too, am leaving Mother and Father, but to a place I know not of aside from murmurs and whispers heard amongst the devils and soldiers of The Sight in the market.

Foreigners are aiding in the trek, their skin showing no signs of being kissed by our land's sun. They bemoan the heat, the sweltering, suffocating air that rules these wastes. It seems that they, too mourn one of the own who had passed but a day before you.




We've wandered for days and have arrived at a sight I never knew existed: a vast gorge stretching far below and beyond the desert's borders. The wind is screaming as if in agony, and no living thing has broken our vigil as we await what is to become of me and this being that rent you so, brother. I fear I may not last much longer and will fail to complete this journey.

The foreigners are frightened, and the devils have retreated a distance. It is only myself, the dark dwarf, and the half-giant standing towards the sound. A tear in the very space around us as a blade pierces through some unseen screen. A terrifying face with dead eyes and sharpened teeth breaches through the hole in front of us. The sun still shines, but I can see my breath. Brother, it's so cold.

Purpose / Function

In light of the delicate balance between the societies of immortals and those of the mortals which live amongst their lands, a series of practices were formulated in preventing a demon, spirit, malicious ghost, and other such things from escaping their mortal shells and returning to their planes of thought only to return once more. These mad beings would eventually wreak mischief and chaos as far their physical shells will allow. Whether it be in the spirit's chosen form, or in the form of a possessed mortal, the Bound Towers seal the spirits within the shell, severing all connection to Ikh-Mir.

Architecture

The towers vary in height, depending on the plane in which they occupy. The surrounding arcane landscapes tend to allow the physical size of the buildings to shift along with the needs of the priests and other inhabitants of the tower. A commonly shared characteristic of many of the towers is the outer carapace being covered in what appears to be layers upon layers of shale.

History

Wandering, benevolent spirits, fearing their slow descent into the entropy and corruption of the cosmos beyond, allowed themselves to merge into hollowed husks of creatures and form the Bound Priests, humanoids with nondescript and blank faces, characterized by the three sets of extra arms floating above their shoulders. Each Priest reflects the element that their spirit once projected: water, fire, earth, air, light, darkness, and all in-between.
