Drotchet Ilse

Drotchet Ilse is a small island surrounded by steep cliffs, connected to the mainland via a natural bridge, known as Drotchet Creep.
It is the only way to safely move onto the island and has been known to be very treacherous, especially at high winds, giving rise to many folk's tales.

Geography

Located along the southern coastline of the Ilses of Gaibidess, Drotchet Ilse is the only prominent peninsula of it's kind.
The natural arch which connects the ilse to the mainland, called Drochet Creep, is only just wide enough for a narrow cart to cross it safely,.
Unlike the typical landmass of the region, the arch appears to be made of a harder, possibly volcanic rock then the usual chalk and limestone, smoothed by the erosion of violent storms.
The island itself has cliffs on all sides, which can only be scaled by experienced climbers at calm weather, and even then there is a risk of having boats shattered against the rocks.
Upon the island there is a thin layer of soil settled by hardy grass and a small settlement of farmers.

History

Being such an isolated place, not much of its history is known.
A common tale that has been told since time immemorial was that of how an ancient Oad, from the times of the Heol-Bri, had been tricked into building the bridge for the local people.
The earliest recording of the tale is written in ancient Cribic on a petrified slice of bark.
When translated, it tells the following story:
In the times when the ... there lived a folk of shepherds and fishers, who lived a simple life.
They would rise and settle with the sun, and were friends and family all as one, and were no different then us.
Among them was a handsome young lad and sprightly girl, and one twilight they snuck away from the village to gaze at the heavens from the cliffs
