Underground prison
At its beginning, the underground prison was built for the same purposes as Base Infinity. Time and corrupt management of the government resources transformed the base into something less important but more sinister: a prison not for common criminals but war prisoners, rebels and dissidents.
Purpose
Today, the prison has become a place for punishment not only for the inmates but also for the soldiers, guards and officials living in there. When a member of the army steps out of line, disrespects a superior, fails a mission, or is simply not liked by their commander is sent to serve to the underground base, sometimes for a year, sometimes forever. They cannot quit, that would mean they would be charged with treason and punished with death.
Because the government cannot afford that the people, unfairly held there, try to escape, they allow certain privileges to their soldiers and commander working there. These privileges often come at the expense of the inmates' suffering.
Once there, everything they own is confiscated. The commander of the prisons keeps the best of the loot, and the lower ranks fight for the rest. On rare occasions, the state sends "good" food for the inmates, as a part of a marketing campaign to make themselves look good with their people, but that food never gets past the guards. The prisoners are also forced to work under terrible conditions for the benefit of the commander. The guards also receive scraps for whoever beat them most to produce whatever the commander put them to do to sell later.
The existence of the prison is not a secret, but the general public doesn't know its exact location. The threat of being sent there, either in chains or with a weapon, is omnipresent in the minds of every person living in this country. No one wants to end up there. It's a sure path to doom and misery. Even if someone is not behind bars, they still live underground, rarely see sunlight, breath the same recycled stale air and every day they lose a bit of themselves and whatever hope they had.
New Inmates
Since the arrival of part of the crew that came back from The Anomaly something changed. The commander of the prison became very involved in all the day-to-day happenings. He demands that everything that the group doe is to be reported immediately back to them. Also, he supervised the interrogations to recover whatever information they haven't disclosed before. So far his efforts had been unsuccessful. One of the reasons part of the crew was sent to the underground prison is their nationalities: none of them was born in Pogron, that's why they are considered a threat, potential enemies.
Type
Prison
The reports from the prison they took the captain and the rest make me feel... No, I feel nothing. But I happened to notice that the tunnels and tubes used to keep the air suited for living conditions could fit one of their kind and are not always well guarded. If they knew this, maybe, they could escape.
The former military base is located at the north of the territories controlled by the Pogron's Empire. The landscape there is desolated, frigid, and devoid of warmth. The harsh conditions surrounding the prison and the fact that most of its installation is underground was one of the reasons that it was transformed into a prison instead of developing more infrastructures like the government did with Base Infinity.
Of course, it's not my place to intervene in their situation. My only responsibility is to make a recommendation to my superiors. That is my duty. Not to give them information to help them escape their cruel imprisonment.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, this place sounds utterly awful! The idea that I could be sent here would definitely keep me behaving in society. A really nice article though, glad I got to read it!
Hi! thank you for reading and for the comment. If you think this place is awful that means I achieved my goal!
