The Lush and Fertile Rainforests
One of the most lush and fertile locations in the world are the rainforests on the largest island of the island chain. The rainforests are home of many of the world's native creatures, some of which are endangered or near extinction due to logging and ecosystem destruction. Many of the trees that grow here are also rare and valuable, meeting the same terrible fate as animals and insects.
Because the rainforests are home to many rare and endangered plants and animals, entry is highly restricted. To gain entry, one most ask permission from the Ecological Society, a guild dedicated to researching and protecting the rainforests. The Ecological Society isn't well liked but are trusted with their duties. Some wish to travel within the rainforests to search for treasure or collect creatures for their collections, but find it burdensome that the Ecological Society is watching and would not allow them within. Others are skeptical of the society because they believe the society does what it does to harbor monsters and use them for their own gain. The skeptics don't think the rainforests are benign. However, that is simply conspiracy.
There is plenty of rumors surrounding the rainforests because very little research has been done about what's within. A lot of rainforests have previously been destroyed, so it's unknown how many different types of trees and creatures went with those destroyed rainforests. Part of the reason why the Ecological Society conducts research is to get a fuller understanding of what lives within. Because there's a history of deforestration, the present rainforests are considered precious and filled with special power.
Geography
The rainforests are primarily located alongside mountains and are very difficult to traverse. The trees are incredibly thick because they are not inhabited or spoiled by humanoids. There isn't much sunlight below the canopy of the rainforest because the trees are so thick, they block sunlight from reaching the ground. So the ground is dark and moist.
