Fawns Ethnicity in Hallowed Legacy | World Anvil

Fawns

Though they are small, quiet, and - if we're being honest - cute, fawns have a certain and surprising fierceness to them. They may have been originally created to serve, but they are not servants anymore.

Few things are a greater reminder of the all-encompassing might and control of the Eroberan empire than the Fawns. The Eroberan's created the fawns to be the perfect servants. They were made with the beauty of the dryads and the meekness of deer. The end result was a race of small, bipedal deer-like humanoids who were quiet, gentle, swift, and fair. After the Eroberan empire fell, the fawns learned to forge their own path in Aga as free people.

To Serve

As a race that did not exist before the dominance of the Eroberan empire, the history of the Fawns has always been tied to theirs. The alchemists of the empire had determined, a few centuries into their reign, that they needed something smaller and more compliant than any other creature to do small work. Something to be pleasant to look at, yet not distracting. Something to easily maintain their homes and parties, yet not strong enough to cause problems.   So they were created through a magical process combining the most desirable traits from several other creatures such as dryads, deer, and mice. Their creators intended for the fawns to be completely controlled and that they would not be able to reproduce on their own. However, as time passed, this changed. Eventually, the fawns were able to have their own children and families, which the Eroberans grudgingly allowed.

After the Empire

As the Sea People were pushed out and destroyed, the fawns were able to gain independence. They struggled, at first, to find a new place in society. Most of them stayed in the more urban areas, opening shops or running inns and taverns. Some of them went into the wilds to establish their own settlements or connect with their dryad cousins.
