Sunpiercer

Among the most prominent myths and legends of the Toa'ana is that of Temaia, and the lengthening of the days. In short, it tells of the Mana Atua Monumental and his efforts to slow the passing of the day, as those faithful to him found they didn't have the time to work, worship and play in the early days of Gyrraholm. In the tale, Temaia impales the sun on his spear, holds onto it with a divine rope, and digs his heels in to slow the rotation of the planet. Supposedly this effort is what broke the islands up into many, but it was also the creation of a fabled weapon.   The Sunpiercer is said to bolster the wielders strength, so long as they behave in a manner befitting the Patron Monumental of Heroes. The divine tether which Temaia used to slow the planet's rotation is supposedly a part of the weapon itself, and some legends say that the flame-touched nature of the artifact has resulted in an intense burst of radiant fire whenever it strikes an opponent. But these are mere tales, surely.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The monumental spear's unique properties are mostly the product of divine magic. When thrown, a gleaming silver tether keeps it from being separated from it's wielder, allowing a warrior to pull their enemies closer (or vice versa). When connecting with an opponent, the spear radiates with radiant fire, which can inflict serious burns on anyone unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end.

Significance

The Sunpiercer holds great significance to the Toa'ana people, as it is the fabled weapon wielded by Temaia, the patron monumental to Toa'ana heroes. The Mana Atua (supposedly) pierced the sun itself with his spear, and anchored himself and the world to it in order to provide Gyrraholm with longer days.
