The Broken Finger Inn

There's no place like home...

The Broken Finger inn is a poorly maintained two-storey tavern and flophouse in the dockside district of Spirewall .   The main building sits directly on the side of street, and a small alley way lead to a small yard out back with an unused storehouse set apart from it by a few yards. The ground floor of the inn itself consists of only two rooms, the largest of which, opening directly onto the cobbled street outside, is the tavern hall. The hall is nearly fifty feet in breadth and around seventy in length, and the majority of the floorspace is given over to tables of various origins, shapes and stability, many surrounded by an odd collection of chairs and stools that match just as poorly. The best lit part of the tavern, and that isn't setting much of a standard in lighting, is a small, elevated stage that occupies a corner near the, usually unlit, fireplace set in the western wall. Opposite the stage, on the far side of the building can be found the long, sturdy bar behind which stands a single, rickety, tall stool reserved for the innkeeper, Solk Innworthy Behind the bar a rough wooden door leads into what passes as the kitchen and from there can be found a trapdoor to the damp cellar beneath the inn. Next to the bar, a narrow, steep wooden stairway ascends to the second floor where, someone desperate enough, could find something that might be called "a room" with "a bed" by someone charitable enough of language. Four of them are available at excellent rates for patrons whilst the remaining one is reserved for the innkeeper. That'll be the one with the strongest and most solid door in the building then. The only other area on the upper floor is a small washroom, adjoined to the landing. The innkeep likes to call this area "the parlor" for no obvious reason than to give it some air of grace. That might be better achieved by unjamming the grimy windows, perhaps?   On a busy night, the Broken Finger can be quite lively, able to occupy fifty or more patrons at a squeeze. On market days the inn often plays hosts to bards and troubadours and a card game is nearly always to be had if one is so inclined. The innkeep seems to have some sort of working arrangement with the town guard, but The Knights of the Watch are another matter entirely and they are rarely welcome patrons.
