Darkyn Runes

The Darkyn Runes are a forbidden form of magick, originally created by the Svartalfar elves. They found that regular magick didn't have the strength to move pure ores within the mountains they inhabited. Together, the created a set of magick-infused runes which could be marked around an object and, on command, the spell would be triggered. The runes were designed for moving large segments of ore or the mass smelting of metals. Such powerful magick was also to be carried out in specifically trained groups of elves who were the strongest spellcasters in their population.   However, in 1420, King Beiric's ancestors waged war on the peaceful Svartalfar elves. The battle was one-sided, but the elves remained in situ for 31 years before the humans broke through the defences and murdered everyone in sight. No elf was left alive. Their sacred texts and records around the Darkyn Runes were found and taken as part of the treasure. After all, knowledge is power.   The texts were supposedly lost to time, until the Brothers Of Streinthrar formed in the early 3000's. As the group evolved into less of a religious sect and more of a political club, the runes became a great method of keeping members silenced. They also worked great for threats. The brotherhood all own a signet ring with a crow on it, although also on the ring is the member's name written in the runes. This binds them to the brotherhood.

The official historical record from the royal castle states that the texts from 'The Battle for Caltara' (also known as the Caltara Masacre), were lost in the great fire of 3659 when King Garund ordered the fae catacombs beneath the castle to be destroyed. Even then, there are only mere rumours that such texts existed.   Below is a roughly translated alphabet of Darkyn Runes although they are not to be used in any practical or written form.

I like it how the shape of the runes feels ideal for writing with finger dipped in blood. The signs have nice curvatures, spots and don't have a "stiff" shape. Nice piece of work. I also enjoyed the use of icelandic (?) in the name of the elvish clan.

Nordic, specifically Viking legends - I wanted something different to the medieval Europe. Thank you for your kind words!
