The Eldar Kriss
A short wavy blade made out of a dark metal with elaborate anodized filigree. The center of the blade sports a blood channel that terminates in circular fashion near the hilt. The channel appears like the artistic representation of a soul. The hilt is made up of the same dark metal shaped like succulent leaves. The grip is made of a carved dark wood from the Gé'Mena villa grove with a simple metal cap for a pommel.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
+2 Dagger, 1d4 dmg, Constructed Unique, Attunement required: 4-hour mediation, Usage 10 charges, Crimson Cascade (1 charge): each time the maximum damage value is rolled on a die, you roll an additional dmg die. This continues until you do not roll the maximum value of the die. Thirsting: If you have not used any charges since you last slept, the Kriss will drain 1 hp per remaining charge to refill its charges. It will also refill at dawn if all the charges are gone. As this weapon has been wielded solely by three different princes of Highgate, it may prove detrimental to a wielder without Highgate royal blood. One thief, before his head was cut off, reported that the Kriss had spoken to him, but refused to say what it had said.
History
The Eldar Kriss is held by the Prince of Highgate. Originally a wedding gift from the Gé’Mena family to the Lo’Vei royal Prince Tasei for the joining of their houses. The kriss was most notably wielded in the sacking of Arder by Tasei’s son Kaelyn. It has since become a formality after Highgate’s amalgamation into the Helmund nation. However, in Elven history and legend, the Eldar Kriss eviscerated hundreds of Highgate’s foes. Giants, Dwarves, and Humans, and other monstrosities bled out from mortal wounds bestowed by its blade.
Significance
This dagger has become a heirloom for the Lo'Vei. It is passed to the crown prince of Highgate at a coronation, symbolizing the passing of responsibility of Highgate's security. During the ceremony it is typically handed to the spouse of the new crown prince by the new king. The spouse will then present it to the crown prince. The dagger represents the station and a promise to the spouse's family of Highgate's protection.
