William Alan Hendrix (a.k.a. Sarge)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Will makes for a rather imposing figure, standing at 6'4" and weighing 250 pounds. He is broad across the shoulders, with an athletic build that is muscular albeit not bulky. He keeps his dark brown hair relatively close-cropped, with a neatly-trimmed beard along his jawline. His eyes are a shade of steely gray.

Identifying Characteristics

A half-sleeve tattoo depicting the U.S. Army Special Forces insignia marks his right shoulder and arm above the elbow. In addition, a protective anti-possession symbol is tattooed on the upper left side of his torso, just below his collarbone. Though not apparent at a casual glance, William's lower left leg is missing below the knee, having been replaced by a prosthesis years ago.

Apparel & Accessories

Will generally dons a tan hooded bomber jacket or dark blue button-down work shirt over a plain black tee shirt with dark blue jeans and hiking boots.

Melee Weapons   Kershaw Blur: Used primarily for utility purposes.   Yarborough Knife: Used for heavy utility purposes or decapitating vampires, ghouls, etc.   Silver Knife: This blade is based on a Fairbairn-Sykes commando dagger whose blade and handle have been plated in sterling silver. It is used as a weapon of last resort against shapeshifters, werewolves, wraiths, etc.   RMJ Shrike Tomahawk: Used to breach buildings and barricades in addition to decapitating vampires & ghouls.   Collapsible Baton: A heat-treated steel expandable police baton whose contact surfaces have been plated with consecrated wrought iron. A Devil’s Trap is engraved on the butt cap. Used for temporarily dispelling spirits and subduing demon-possessed humans.   Ranged Weapons   Ruger LCRx: Concealed in an ankle holster, this revolver serves as William’s backup/holdout pistol.   HK45 Compact Tactical: Carried concealed in an IWB holster, this is Hendrix’s primary sidearm. It is sometimes fitted with a Ti-RANT 45M suppressor.   FNX-45 Tactical: For situations where a long gun is not feasible. Fitted with Ti-RANT 45M suppressor and Trijicon RM07 reflex sight.   Mossberg Shockwave: When a compact shotgun is needed, either for breaching or firing rock salt/silver buckshot.   Mossberg 590A1 Tactical: Fitted with Surefire X400 weapon light & green laser sight.   FN SCAR 17S: Equipped with EOTech EXPS3 holographic sight, Octane Omega suppressor, Magpul AFG-2 foregrip, sling, and Surefire X400 weapon light/green laser sight. Only used in extreme situations.   Remington Model 700 XCR Compact Tactical: Equipped with Leupold magnified optics and bipod.     Ammunition   In addition to standard ammunition, William also has several specialty rounds available to deal with the unconventional supernatural threats he faces.   Against shapeshifters, werewolves, and other creatures vulnerable to silver, Hendrix utilizes custom-made semiwadcutter rounds in his pistols, manufactured and hand-loaded by a fellow Hunter. They consist of a lead core and copper jacket (acting as a “belt” to expand and properly engage the rifling when fired). However, the entirety of the jacket towards the nose of the projectile is plated in sterling silver. In addition, Hendrix often makes use of silver-plated buckshot. In either case, the silver can be replaced by wrought iron for use against spirits, demons, shtrigas, hellhounds, etc. Incendiary tracer rounds are available for use against wendigos, rugarus, and changelings.

Personal history

William was born on March 3rd, 1983 to a mother he never learned the identity of. She gave the infant up for adoption soon after his birth. Will was taken into the care of the state, bouncing around between various foster homes throughout Georgia for much of his childhood. Despite his academic talent he had disciplinary issues, spending a stint in juvenile hall. On his twelfth birthday, Will was adopted by Scott and Maria Hendrix.   Scott was a United States Army Ranger posted to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia while Maria worked as a nurse at a nearby hospital. William assimilated quickly into his new family, bonding closely with their biological son, Lance, who was near his own age. When Hendrix was only a teenager, Maria was murdered during a suspected botched robbery, leaving Scott to raise his two sons alone. He retired from the Army, caring for William and Lance until they graduated from high school.   Will enlisted at the age of eighteen with the United States Army as an Infantryman, volunteering for service with the 75th Ranger Regiment. Following several months of grueling training, Will was assigned to a rifle squad in the 3rd Ranger Battalion. After serving for three years with the Rangers as an assaulter, designated marksman, and rifle team leader, Hendrix applied for Special Forces training.             William completed the pipeline and was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group as a Medical Sergeant in late 2005. William served with an ODA for several years as a Medical Sergeant, earning his sniper qualification and later transferring to the Group’s elite CIF Company. Hendrix participated in multiple combat rotations in Iraq and Afghanistan during his time in SF, earning a multitude of commendations for valor and meritorious service in the process.   In late 2014, William and five other Special Forces Soldiers were attached to a small element of Afghan National Army troops. They were tasked with inserting into a rural section of Afghanistan to capture a local Taliban spiritual leader and high value target. However, the unit was ambushed in the dead of night. Supernatural involvement quickly became clear: hex bags were planted as traps for his unit, causing their weapons and communications systems to malfunction. Several members of the unit were possessed, lashing out at their comrades. Taliban fighters that had willingly offered themselves up as hosts for demons attacked Hendrix’s element, who were utterly unaware of what they were facing.   The unit held their ground for as long as possible, leveraging close air support and withering firepower to incapacitate the demon-possessed fighters and even kill the original target -- now revealed to be a powerful witch. However, when all was said and done, William was the only survivor of the assault force. His left leg was severely injured and he narrowly avoided bleeding out. After being evacuated by a Quick Reaction Force, Hendrix was hospitalized and the limb was amputated below the knee and replaced with a prosthesis.         Returning to the United States, William was thoroughly debriefed about the raid. He adamantly recounted the tale to his superiors as well as several intelligence organizations, emphasizing the black-eyed attackers and other paranormal occurrences. He was written off as mentally unstable: wracked with delusions caused by PTSD and survivor’s guilt. He was honorably discharged shortly thereafter.   After several months of physical and mental rehabilitation, Will adjusted to the use of his prosthetic limb. He was contacted by Derek Shaw, a military veteran and former police detective turned legendary hunter who had heard his story. Shaw brought him into the fold, explaining the existence of supernatural creatures.   At Hendrix’s insistence, Derek agreed to take him on as an apprentice and teach him the ways of a hunter. After a year and a half of on-the-job training, Shaw declared him to be “ready” before promptly disappearing. Will is now working independently as a hunter, moving across the Continental United States, taking jobs where he can.
