Martial Arts: Elijah is a seasoned martial artist, training in various combat styles and techniques since he was a young child. He is a highly-trained swordsman with over two decades of experience in Historical European Martial Arts and Classical Fencing. He was also instructed in the Japanese weapon arts of Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, and Kobudo by Kenji Sato. Eli frequently engaged in “test cutting”, full-speed sparring, and sword fighting competitions over the years. Davenport is likewise a capable knife & stick fighter, having trained extensively in a blend of Eskrima & Pencak Silat as well as historical European dagger & singlestick techniques.
Elijah is proficient in multiple unarmed martial arts. As part of his HEMA training, Elijah trained in historical German Ringen and English Catch Wrestling. He began attending the Budokwai in London at the age of six, where he studied Judo and Shotokan Karate and was ultimately awarded a 1st Dan Black Belt in each. Kenji Sato trained Elijah extensively in Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu and Goju-Ryu Karate throughout his childhood and teenage years. While attending Oxford, Elijah continued his Judo and karate schooling (earning a 2nd Dan Black Belt and Brown Belt respectively) in addition to dabbling in Amateur Boxing. While studying overseas in France, Eli practiced full-contact Combat Savate/Boxe Française, earning his Yellow Glove (Technical Rank, Fourth Degree). Back home in the United Kingdom, Eli trained extensively at a mixed martial arts gym where he trained in Dutch-style Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Two-Stripe Purple Belt), and no-gi Submission Wrestling. Whenever possible, Elijah engaged in free sparring and competition in order to properly hone his skills in each discipline.
Marksmanship: Though he has not devoted as much time to ranged weaponry as swordsmanship & martial arts, Elijah is nonetheless proficient in the use of various firearms, particularly long guns. Eli is however a skilled archer, able to use a modern compound bow, traditional longbow, or crossbow with lethal accuracy. He is also well-versed in knife-throwing.
Linguistics: Elijah is multilingual. He is fluent in French & Spanish and conversational in German, Italian, and Japanese. He is able to read and understand Latin and to a lesser extent ancient Greek.
Supernatural Lore: Raised to be a scholar as much as a warrior, Davenport has studied various texts and bits of lore regarding supernatural creatures and phenomenon since adolescence, priding himself on his extensive knowledge of even relatively obscure occult matters. He has memorized a multitude of different exorcisms and is capable of carrying out many basic rituals.

Melee Weapons
Longsword: Commissioned by his father and crafted by the Davenports’ ancestral bladesmith, the longsword serves as one of Elijah’s primary weapons. The full-tang, double-edged sword is 125cm in length and makes use of a cruciform hilt and fullered cross-section. The 92cm blade is forged from 5160 spring steel (marquenched in holy oil and through-hardened to 54 HRC with the exception of the tang, which is drawn back to 32 HRC). The flats on either side of the blade are electroplated: one surface with polished sterling silver, the other with consecrated wrought iron. The crossguard and pommel are plated with these same materials. The center of either flat, including the fuller, is engraved with a number of Devil’s Traps and warding sigils, which are also present on the pommel and the center of the crossguard.
Katana: Crafted by Kenji Sato, Elijah’s katana complements the longsword. The full-tang blade is 65cm long and hand-forged from T10 high-carbon tungsten alloy tool steel (quenched in holy water and given a Shinto blessing), differentially-hardened and clay-tempered (60 HRC along the edge and 40 HRC at the spine). This allows the blade to be tough and durable while still holding an incredibly sharp edge. As with his longsword, the surface of the flats of the katana have been electroplated: one side with polished sterling silver and the other with consecrated wrought iron. The butt cap, grip, and tsuba of the sword have also been inlaid with these same materials.
Both sides of the blade (as well as its tsuba and butt cap) are engraved with a variety of gold-colored Devil’s Trap symbols. The lacquered black scabbard of the weapon is crafted with a white oak interior, overlain by a layer of blessed palo santo. The scabbard is likewise inscribed with warding sigils and Devil’s Traps.
Rapier & Main Gauche: This combination of thrusting sword and dagger has been silver-plated. It allows for a greater reach and precise thrusts delivered to a shifter’s heart.
Karambit: Plated in wrought iron and sterling silver along its contact surface, this blade is often carried concealed in a horizontal belt sheath below the small of Elijah’s back and is used in extreme close quarters.
Dagger: Forged from steel, plated in wrought iron and sterling silver along its flats. A Devil’s Trap is inscribed at the base of the blade.
Kurdish Demon-killing Blade: Gifted to Elijah by Mackenzie Caderyn, this knife is his primary choice for dealing with demons and hellhounds when preservation of the former’s host is not a concern. The knife and a handful of others were originally crafted centuries ago by Kurdish hunters with the aid of a Grigori Angel.
The blade consists of high-purity iron smelted from a meteorite recovered on the banks of the Jordan River in the 12th century. It was hand-forged and quenched in holy oil before being etched with Enochian runes and spellwork, granting it the ability to permanently slay demons and hellhounds with strikes to vital parts of their bodies. The knife is not capable of destroying vengeful spirits, though its consecrated iron blade can temporarily dispel them on contact. The blade also possesses an unnatural resistance to damage, dulling, and corrosion.
Originally crafted as janbiya and khanjar daggers, several of the blades were painstakingly reforged or otherwise modified centuries ago to resemble their current Bowie-style shape upon being imported into the U.S. by Samuel Colt, possibly as a means of disguising them from demons seeking to lay claim to or destroy them.

Personal history
Elijah was born on June 2nd, 1986 in London. The Davenports were a multi-generational and wealthy family of Hunters that had been active across the British Isles and on mainland Europe for several centuries. He was raised in the hunter lifestyle, trained from a young age learning about the lore and hunting of supernatural creatures by his family and various associates, including the enigmatic Kenji Sato, a famed Okinawan hunter. He began participating in actual hunts at the age of fourteen. However, at his mother’s insistence, he received a full private education. He majored in Archaeology & Anthropology at the University of Oxford, graduating at the top of his class. Even while attending classes, he continued to hunt on the side.
After graduating from university, the time came for him to be assimilated fully into the dynasty. It was then that he learned the truth about the Davenport’s hunting success: at the behest of the Men of Letters, they captured various supernatural creatures, holding them as prisoners and test subjects and so that new generations could practice killing them. Elijah suspected that some of the vampires had even been “bred” for this purpose. The root of the issue went even further, as he found out. The Davenports had made multiple deals with Crossroads Demons to achieve their status as premier hunters.
Elijah swore off his family ties, freeing many of the captured creatures before fleeing England. His mentor Kenji Sato revealed his true identity: Hachiman, the Japanese patron deity of warriors. The god gave his life to aid in his student’s escape.
Eli subsequently found himself drawn to the lifestyle of a hunter and took several several jobs across Europe, recently traveling to the United States to continue his work.

The pair met at Vitae when Ashley-May's hunting partner was injured during a recon mission. Elijah and his hunting partner assisted in getting them both back to Vitae safely and saved Mackenzie's life. Soon after Elijah sacrificed himself to an imposing god and kept the small colony of hunters safe from harm's way. Ash and Eli bonded during his time spent at the clinic under her care.
