Oremynd

"The Copper Crown"

Situated at the northern edge of the Sunlit Vale (and adjacent to the Bay of Blood) within Hariel Majour, Oremynd is one of the Kingdom of Wyeth's key mining towns and the entryway to the Copper Mountains beyond.   Oremynd is a frontier town, or at least is retains the "feeling" of such a rough and tumble settlement. Here, ore barons face off with copper bandits and brigands brought in from the World Sea. Law is (barely) kept in check by the crown appointed sheriff who is so underfunded and undermanned that he often stoops to deputizing local miners to assist in rounding up known felons.   Technically, the town falls under the control of The Barony of Rocha, though it has been annexed by the crown for its access to precious resources. Some saw this grab by the king as a test of the Baron's loyalty, and though he went along with it, Baron Navac III clearly chafed at the presumption involved. Though cooperative on the surface, he maintains a series of "company men" and spies within the town's borders, making certain that not all the money flowing out of the area is destined strictly towards Markhan.   Other interest also keep firm tabs on Oremynd. A loose cooperative of Ore Barons supply the town with enough funds to make up for what the crown cannot (or will not) provide. They employ a private mercenary force to keep the miners in line on a day-to-day basis. Oremynd is sadly known for its long legacy of ore-related violence and subterfuge, in which nearly countless miners and innocent townsfolk have lost their lives over the years. Skirmishes over pay, turf, rights and copper are so common that the permanent settlers have simply adjusted to them as a way of life. "There's a widow for every copper penny," is a saying well known in town.

Demographics

Oremynd has a permanent population roughly 75% human, 20% dwarven, and 5% mixed other (mostly half-urtlan). It's migratory workers are predominantly human, and the mercenaries are almost exclusively so.

Government

Oremynd is run "locally" by a Lord Mayor appointed by the Baron of Rocha (but approved by the crown itself), due to the sensitive nature of its important position in proximity to one of the crown's key mines. The current Lord Mayor, a man with little actual power it should be noted, is Lord Meillor Tursoled.   Unofficially, the town is run by the various "Ore Barons," at least several of who are suspected to be Club Masters from Angleport or even Varuumae Corona.

Infrastructure

Oremynd is a frontier town that's been "bigged up" into a ramshackle chimera of modernity mixed with rotting wooden structures. The old buildings, in existence ever since the formation of the town, some 400 years ago, still stand. These broken down wood structures have been reinforced with new stone walls (in some cases), along with additional support struts and even add-on rooms. All in all, the aesthetic is piecemeal chic without the chic.
