The One Woman Dwarven Wrecking Ball
General Summary
Having discovered the location of Mozzor's imprisoned spirit in the depths of the mines, the party immediately felt a wave of malevolent energy enter their minds and attempt to control them. All except Tora, who was protected by Boznar's necklace. Korkath and Amund felt their will pushed aside by the devil but the others fought the effects. Amund, under Mozzor's influence, attempted to stop Tora from entering the cavern, but the determined barbarian brushed the half-elf fighter aside and set to work destroying the ceiling supports in the cavern. Aided by some well placed magic missiles from Arilya and, when he fought of the control of Mozzor, an eldritch blast from Korkath, Tora executed the plan almost to perfection despite momentary lapses from her friends allowing Mozzor to briefly take control of them and attempt to stop the dwarf. The ceiling supports failed after giving the party time to escape through the cavern to the other side. Mozzor's attempt to stop them fell short as the iron wills of the party held against his malevolent influence. The roof of the cavern collapsed, buring the already imprisoned devil under tons of rock. A psychic cry for help from Mozzor burst out just as the ceiling fell, and the party felt the ominous dread that their time to escape safely was ticking away.
Running through passageways filled with dust and debris from the collapsed cavern, the group made their way to the exit that Bznur had dubbed "The Door of Fear". All but Tora were pushed back by the magical effects of thedoor, Amund, i particular, was terrorized by the monstrous visage mounted above the solid wooden door and he attempted to flee back into the tunnels until Tora brought him down with a tackle that injured the fighter's leg. Going to work on the demonic visage carved above the door, Tora wasted little time in obliterating the carving. As it became less a monument of fear and more comical in appearance, Arliya and Greenlee both blasted parts of it away until only the door itself remained as an obstacle.
Temgrin attempted to pick thelock, but found it too complex, so Tora simply demolished the door with her axe. Beyond lay an antechamber with no apparent exit. Carved upo the walls were bas reliefs of goblins mining the ore from the nearby tunnels under the watchful eyes and cruel whips of devils. The final scene showed a group of goblin shamans clasping hands around what was apparently Mozzor's crystaline prison. As the party debated whether it was wise to rest while they worked out their next move, Temgrin explored the chamber, discovering that the carving of Mozzor's crystal was in fact the trigger for a hidden door. Beyond lay a chamber with rune carved pillars in each corner and a carving resting on a plinth in the center. Before they could explore this room in any detail, a scream was heard from the chamber beyond. A stone slab blocked their path forward but Tora and Amund put their brawn to work again and slid the slab aside allowing them progress ahead.
In the next room, they found a half-elf tied down to an altar with a corrosive acid slowly dripping down on his arms and legs. Tora freed him, while Korkath aught the dripping acid inside one of the urns that had been discarded on the floor of the chamber. The half-elf didn't know where he was or how long he had been here. He only remembered being captured while on a job scouting the area. He introduced himself as Faeble. Just then a sharp series of taps were heard from beneath the floor and several hideous creatures, looking like bloated spiders with eels for heads, emerged from the floor. Though tiny in stature, these creatures packed a punch as the party soon discovered when Amund and Korkath fell victim to their poisonous bites. Nonetheless the party dealt with the threat of the newly hatched aberrations, but the option to rest was no longer a debate. Amund, in particular was hurt so badly that they needed to stop.
Faebel explored the surroundings, finding his own captured gear in the plinth in the previous chamber, along with some gold. While resting, some of the group heard, or felt, a whispering voice at the back of their minds. Different from Mozzor's influence, the words rang clear in their consciousness: "My children! Revenge!". With Amund recovered and the minor injuries of the others dealt with, the way forward seemed to be blocked by a wooden door, barred from the other side. Once again, it was Tora who stepped up, splintering the door with a few well placed blows and kicking the shattered remnants aside. As the last of the door debris fell to the floor, two words rang out from the room beyond.
"Loose arrows!"
