Long ago, when the world was a wasteland ruled by primeval giants, the Gods descended from the stars and conquered the world. They carved the planet into a pleasing shape and created lesser creatures to worship them. They were immense beasts, stretched across space and dimensions, filled with all the knowledge of the cosmos. The little people they created thanked them for their life and good fortune, but they built their cities underground to escape when the Gods’ rage made the skies bleed.   Then, nearly two hundred years ago, they vanished, all at once. The moment it happened was obvious. Priests were reduced to mundanity, temples held aloft by holy power alone collapsed, and angels, not meant to function without a tie to the divine, went mad.   At least a few of the Gods are dead. The mammoth carcass of AnHere, God of Water, washed ashore to the south of the world, and those scavengers which fed on His divine ichors have mutated into horrors with a malicious collective intelligence. Wherever the rest are, they spare no thought to a world which is spiraling out of control without them. Monsters rampage unchecked or find themselves forming civilizations of their own. The dead extort their descendants without an afterlife prepared to hold them. Even the very foundations of the world - the earth, the sea, the weather - begin to rile without an outside force to corral them.   The people of the world have crawled from their ruined holes to find a planet which has been changed irrevocably. Whether it will be for the better or for worse remains to be seen.
