Xenology

A study of foreign lifeforms, it originated as a mostly theoretical - and traditionally considered as fictitious - field of research, until the Age of Revelations. Now, it is considered a much bigger science field with many subfields of applied and theoretical science.

Subfields of Xenology

As an study of aliens many of the subfields of xenology are mirrored in the anthropology. At more basic points, someone that has studied xenology will have learned about the major alien cultures from a solar system or galaxy, their history and their communication systems.

Xenozoology

Study of alien non-sapient life - often wildlife -, from their similarities to Terrestrial wildlife to their distinctions, the dangers and uses of such creatures and their habits.

Some discussions have taken place around the known systems about the field of xenozoology and the fact that some departments have studied sapient species in the field simply because the creatures are not humanoid. Most common cases the case of Gwentail University and their Ukoix specimen.

Xenoveterinary

As long as there is no real classifications for what one considers alien wildlife, xenoveterinarians are at risk of committing the same mistake as xenozoologists. On the overall majority, xenoveterinarians are more open to the alterations in labeling of alien animals than xenozoologists, for a variety of reasons.

Aliens of many proud cultures, and even some of not so prideful ones, have taken offense to being treated by xenoveterinarians. The case of Henas Diplomatic Disaster is just the most recent one.

Xenobiology

The study of sapient's life biology is an arduous one and has been considered a noble one as well. Given the large number of different alien lifeforms and the frequent change of classifications, xenobiologists tend to specialize in aliens from nearby galaxies and sectors, studying their forms and habits.

A few xenobiologists turn to xenomedicine, but not many are actually considered good enough to pass the rigorous testing to become a xenomedic.

Xenomedicine

Contrary to previously mentioned subfields, xenomedics are expected to have knowledge to a large pool of aliens, even if they are from far away regions or galaxies.

Xenomedicine is considered a rare diploma, however xenomedics are not rare, as some students of xenoveterinary take to clandestine works as xenomedics when their once animal alien-patients become considered sapient alien-patients.

Known as Star History, it revolves around the story of the whole universe or the stars, pre- and post-Revelation. Students end up learning about a vast number of cultures, civilizations and ruined planets ande planetary systems.

Aliens and Xenology

For a long time academic papers have discussed the use of the term aliens and xenology as well as what it actually means. Originally intended to represent non-humans, as the universe and diplomatic ties change the term becomes outdated.

While still used to denote non-humans it has come to englobe too many species to be an accurate term. Recent events have stirred the conversation forwards, but only slightly.

The changes in classifications of what is alien-animal and sapient-alien is just the beginning, as more alien groups have demanded the creation of specific categories that are less general and more accurate.
