History
The love story of the century. The king of the dead fell in love with the maiden goddess of spring and carried her off to his realm. Her mother Demeter, goddess of agriculture, refused to let anything grow on earth until her daughter was returned to her, while down below, Persephone fell in love with Hades. Facing forcible separation from his true love, Hades offered Persephone a pomegranate. She ate six seeds, binding her to stay in the Underworld for six months out of the year, with the other six spent with her mother, bringing springtime to the world above.
