Shattered Gods

Inhabitants of the farplane. Legend tells that they are small pieces of The Whole One, who broke itself so humans could feel. In most religious canons, they are still considered divine. It's rare to have them worshiped, but the connection to The Whole One affords them a measure of respect.   Every shattered god has a name, and those who encounter a god will know their name instinctively. The names are static across continents, save for when languages do not have certain sound clusters. For example, the shattered god known as Ket in Nyaranal is known as Khet in Mhemen, and Kut in Umal. Most gods' names are short - one or two syllables.   Each individual named god presides over a different shard of emotion. Legend says that there are a thousand thousand shattered gods, but the majority of godbound will bind to the same twenty or so shards. The Fifteenth holds records of most common gods and the emotions they hold.   In addition to containing an emotion, shattered gods hold powers beyond reckoning. Those who bind them receive a small piece of their power when actively channeling them, which is the main reason for binding. The powers held by the shattered gods range from summoning elements, modifying the body, seeing the future, to true healing. Though each god has a general abilityset, each bound mage may experience it in a slightly different way.   If a bound is touching at least 12 kekken of pure gold, a god's power cannot be used. Theorists believe that gold contains a similar property to the veil dividing our worlds, so with sufficient quantity the veil becomes too thick for them to act through. When containing a godbound, a thick collar of 20 kekken is recommended.
