The Angel
The Angel is one of the faster's traders out of the Port Tokjan, on the eastern coast of the Crane Imperium, if you need to get someone or something somewhere quickly on the Great Ocean, hiring The Angel is your best optionThe master and captain of the Angel is Artus Maoth, he is a gambler, a rogue and a general vagabond, who lucked out in a card game once, and his opponent thought he had an unbeatable hand, and bet his papers of ownership of the Angel to call, and the rest is history. Artus isn't the best sailor, or businessman, and if it wasn't for Kadri and Jhaeros he would have bankrupted himself and ship in months.
History of The Angel
The Angel was orginally a ship of the Crane Imperial Navy, as a pirate hunter, a protector of the sealands near the coasts of the Imperium and Mikazu in general, around 150 years ago, She did an good job for decades, till she was retired and sold off due to advancements in technology and general shipbuilding skills of the Naval builders. It was sold to the Katai noble house of the Imperium, as a potential trade ship and transport of important family members to key locations around Godai as required, as a fast and solid ship. Over the next couple of decades she became a regular vistor to many of the ports of the Imperium, normally with a member of the Katai family at its helm as captain, and many of the younger members first experiences of ship life was often on board as a member of her crew on what was seen as a safe and secure place. Then sometime in the last fifty years or so, it was sold on again to a private trader from Sunsu, it was used in the trade of Ember Quartz from the Ember Dominion to Imperium trading houses of Sunsu, It was succesful due to speed and reliablity she as shown thoughout her life. Pity her owner's grandson didn't show the same reliablity when he took command of it only a few years ago, where in the first year he lost the ownership in a gambling den to Artus, who is the present captain and owner.Business Today
Today it still shows as a trader between the many ports of Godai, between the different kingdoms, trading in goods, and transport passengers from many ports and kingdoms. But in the background it also is a smuggler, mostly arranged and controlled by her officers, Kadri and Jhaeros, to supplement their income, they don't always smuggle illegal or dangerous goods (actually rarely dangerous), sometimes its just about trying to avoid Taxs in the many kingdoms. Obviously sometimes it is just illegal goods, or passengers from one of the more unsavoury groups, like the Kal'essi.Layout
As a brig it is a very simple ship, of just one lower deck, along with the maindeck, forecastle and aftdeck, The lower deck is mostly given over to goods, and the crew rig up hamocks to sleep around whatever goods are being transported. While the Captain, Quartermaster and First Mate have cabins on the main deck.Officers
Artus Maoth, is the owner and captain of the ship, not that he much of a sailor or businessman, he got lucky at cards and ended up with the ship, he leaves a lot of the day to day running to Jhaeros and Kadri, because he would much prefer to drink and make conversations with any passengers onboard. He knows a certain amount of undeclared goods show up in the hold from time to time, but he doesn't realise that is the main source of income for the ship and her crew. Kadri is a very unusual Kobold, one that found the seas at a young age and never looked back to his desert home within the Ember Dominion. He only every worked on the Angel, and worked up from a lowly sailor to First Mate and in reality he is the guy who runs the ship, navigates the Great Sea between Mikazu and the other continents on Godai. Jhaeros, is the quartermaster and one of the two officers that the rest of the sailors won't cross or angry. She is a lost soul of the Shadow Courts of the Elves, and for someone to leave those people, she is a very strange character and as a sharp whip to go along with the tongue that can sting with just a word. She looks after the ships provisions, dealing with any customers wanting to transport goods across the seas, she is harsh but fair dealer, and will rarely refuse to transport anything to any place if the money is right. Thran Shatterheart, sleeps with the crew and is charge when the Captain, First Mate and Quartermaster are either indeposed by sleep or by business on land, when they docked at one of the many ports they visit. He deals with the day to day supervision of the rest of the sailors, and makes sure none are slacking off from work.
