The Cloud Eagles

The Cloud Eagles are one of the most rare creatures along side phoenixes. Although cloud eagles are not as rare as phoenixes which only have two left in existence in the Continent of the Realms, cloud eagles are extremely difficult to find in nature comparing to cows, sheep, and pigs. The reason why the cloud eagles are hard to find is because they roam around clouds which can camouflage their white feathers. Many may have seen one but not realize it. The feathers of the eagles are pure white, and their peaks and legs are grey. It is told that the feathers of the birds can change colour according to their emotions, which can also affect the weather of clouds. Legends say that the eggs the eagles lay are made from solid gold. It can be sold for a huge amount of coinage. Because of this, a few people began to capture and breed cloud eagles for their eggs. They are captured and bred in caves so they cannot escape by flying or control clouds. Only humans do this, as dwarves, elves, and mer-people have no need and interest in such cruelty.

The physical structure of the cloud eagles are not different from the regular eagles.

Genetics and Reproduction

The cloud eagles reproduce by a female and male eagle mate. The female will lay her eggs in the clouds. A female eagle can only lay her eggs at most two per 5 years, and they can only lay eggs during summer when the clouds are not cold.

Ecology and Habitats

The cloud eagles only live in the clouds. their special relationship with the clouds allow them to stand on clouds away from predators. They only go to the ground to hunt for food. Only two eagles live and travel together, itself and its mate.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The main food the eagles consume is meat, and that is the only time when they land to the ground. Although the cloud eagles does not have very big stature comparing to cows, they can carry a full grown cow with ease. Since only the cloud eagles can land on clouds, there are no way for them to store food but to leave it on the surface. When the eagles are completely out of food, they can channel lightning for temporary power to survive or fly long enough to find food.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The cloud eagles have a few special abilities and powers for both defence and offence. On the defence side, the eagles can easily camouflage into the clouds due to their colours, thus their name. Some legends say that the eagles can bend clouds to their will to cover oneself in times of danger. On the offence side, they can alter the weather of a cloud depending on their emotions. When an eagle is angry, its feathers will turn dark. Some people believe the birds can also control lightning when the clouds are in the state of a thunderstorm.
