The Black Flames

The Black Flames is the most lethal and deadly sickness known to the Continent of the Realms. This sickness is so deadly that nine out of ten victims do not survive. This sickness used to be a big problem during the Age of Dragons, as the main way of infection is suffering from black dragon fire, a wave of fire a dragon can produce from desperation. However, there are victims that received the sickness by birth. For the most part, the sickness does not hurt. However, when the victim reach a state of stress, anxious, panic, or anger, the sickness effect will kick in. If a victim is extremely lucky, he or she will die not to the cause of the Black Flames. The sickness effect of the Black Flames is the victim will burn to death in a wave of black fire. Sometimes the vicim will feel serve headaches. Once the effect (black fire) kicked in, there is no stoping and the death is near. For many ages, the only cure is the Tears of Dragons. Until recently, a second cure is discovered. The cure discovered has to do with freezing, since ice magic can counter fire magic.

Transmission & Vectors

The Black Flames is not a sickness that can transmit by ways of nature, not even by inheritance from previous generations. The only known possible way of transmission is blood exchange.

Treatment

There are only two known possible treatments. The first treatment is drinking the Tears of Dragons. Since the Black Flames is a magical sickness from the dragons, a magical cure from the dragons can counter the effect. This cure was mainly used before the second and newly discovered cure. The second way of treating this sickness is using ice magic. Since the Black Flames is a sickness of fire magic, ice magic can counter the sickness no problem. For example, if a victim is damaged by an Icerill blade, there is a chance that the ice magic effect will cure the sickness.

Prevention

No, this sickness cannot be prevented.

History

The first recorded case of this sickness was during the Age of Dragons. A farmer, his family, and his flock of animals were constantly harassed by a fire dragon that lived nearby the farmer's farm. One day, the farmer decided to put an end to the chaos by slaying the dragon. He used a bow and arrows made out of piercing steel, a type of steel that can penetrate the scales of a dragon easier than regular steel. The farmer was able to track down and mortally wound the dragon. Out of desperation, the dragon produced a wave a black fire which caught the farmer off guard. The black flames touched the farmer which infected him with the sickness. The dragon died, however the farmer died a year later by burning to death by the black flames.
