The Cataclysm

Accounts of this geological event are scarce as it happened so quickly and was so catastrophic. It is sort of a mystery as to what caused the sudden destruction of the continent of Auriti, but it is speculated that the Forefathers had grown greedy and had lost sight of their true purpose and the gods punished them for this. Others, especially in Glacius, claim that Tribus awoke and was angered by the faith that had imprisoned his master and so he struck at the heart of this faith. Regardless, much of the continent sank below the sea, leaving only the high points of the continent still exposed. The channels run along what were once valleys. With such a catastrophic loss of life, many citizens were forced to flee to the mainland. Those that stayed often died of starvation or dehydration. Some survived, however and formed the city of Midmara, while making homes in the ruins if their once great empire. Today some ruins can be seen below the water of the Silver Ocean, but many have been covered by sea life. In reality, the continental plate that the continent sat on experienced a structural failing as the oceanic plates to the north and south slid over the crust of the plate Auriti sat on. A subduction zone was created and the oceanic ends of the plates slid underneath the northern and southern plates, a rarity. This caused sudden subduction of the ends of the plate leading to catastrophic tsunamis and flooding. It is written in other places along the silver sea that the tides receded drastically that day, followed by a massive surge that destroyed many fishing ships. Storm Stone experienced a massive earth quake and tidal wave as well.
