The Banepir is a ferocious creature that prowls The Shadowed Barrens of Reakea. They are known for their haunting howls in the night that strike fear into Adventurers both novice and experienced.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Banepir is a large creature standing at 5 feet tall and 6 feet long. They generally grow to weight about 250 pounds and are notable for their rock-like appearance. In fact, their tails stand straight up appearing like large spiked stalagmites.   Their backs are covered in large sharp spikes pointed towards their tails and oftentimes their feet have sharp spurs that help the with combat as well as digging into the ground for stability. They also have a furry mane and large claws on their feet. Their most notable feature though is their large mouth with two rows of teeth.

Genetics and Reproduction

The banepir is a monogamous creature that forms lifelong hunting pairs. The gestation period lasts 80 days and they typically have 4 pups.

Growth Rate & Stages

Pups nurse for a period of 6 weeks before moving to regurgitated food brought to them by their parents. That stage lasts for another 4 weeks until the pup begins to hunt for itself. At a year old the pups are finally old enough to move off on their own.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are carnivorous by nature feeding on large prey including the other predators of the The Shadowed Barrens.

Behaviour

They are nocturnal apex predators that terrorize the desert, howling in the night to intimidate their prey and to alert others of their territory and hunts.
