Old Fern Forest
Great blue spruce trees tower close to sixty feet high as a valley of evergreens proudly announces the western edge of the Old Fern Forest. Thick underbrush (though it's tall enough to be called 'overbrush') of immense ferns surround the Tribute river as it snakes up the path though the length of the forest. Deeper within, great oaks tower over the dirt trail that leads to the mighty city of Auramontis set upon the nearby mountain. Home to the most reclusive of the Skipprmani tribe (and their wood-loving elf friends), this treescape is deep and dark, but nevertheless well trodden as merchants brave the journey through the heartland of Gildenaar.
Fauna & Flora
Named for the 7-foot tall ferns which proliferate the area, the forest is home to a wide array of shrubs and trees. There are a few features that stand out: evergreens along the west edge, great oak trees in the interior, and ferns all over. There were once Murano trees along the south side, but their lightweight and strong wood made them ideal for ships, and they were cut down to extinction by 540 or so. Prior to the Calamity, the animals were generally small mammals and birds outside of the occasional bear.
