Gi'ardi

A world where fairies are manipulating history, fairy tales are trying to happen, and a parallel version of Earth is here, thriving, and somewhat resembling, geographically, what our own Earth might look like in 1 or 2 million years. This world is home to our main characters, who are a blend of cultures and constantly proving that you do not have to stay in the box you've been assigned in life and can make something new and beautiful with who you are, truly, and what you've been given.
A family of Hakaya, or storytellers, has been tasked with recording the hidden, essential stories of humans and magic-kind for centuries, since at least the time when a brave woman named Scheherazade used her intellect and her own body to protect the women in the lands of the Abbasid Caliphate. Without acknowledging those stories, humans cannot rest in peace and cannot move on to the Afterlife. This upset was partly caused by a rift between humans and Empyreans, or fairies if you prefer, but that is of little matter to everyday people centuries later. For the storytellers, however, the duty falls to at least one person every century, usually a woman, occasionally a man, to seek out stories and spirits (who they can see quite readily) that need to be honored and/or brought to rest.
