Appointment

Queen is a matriarchal hereditary title. TheDaughters of the First Hatch are raised a priestesses of Semuanya. Each daughter goes through a vision quest to connect with the spirit of Semuanya. In the vision the deity leads the worthy successor to five Semyrith feathers her protectors, Aimurger Alligators. These feathers become the foundation of their Ziruthi. The first daughter to locate five feathers and place them on the altar is crowned the high priestess and made heir apparent. They serve in this role until the Queen dies.
Two weeks after the queen's death the head priestess retreats into the ceremonial chambers and begins a three-day molting process. During this process the ascending high priestess is not allowed to eat or drink anything, but is continually misted and cared for by a priestess of her choice. Neither are allowed to speak to each other as the ascending priestess is tasked with receiving the full spirit and awareness of Semuanya.
Rumor has it that the more intact the sloughed layer the more unified the new Queen will be with Semuanya. The slough is kept safe and fed to the next generation of daughters of the first hatch when they transition from hatchlings to juveniles and begin their training as priestesses of Semuanya.

Duties

The lizardfolk view Queen Orthokent as the physical representative of the deity Semuanya . She is responsible for the The queen is responsible for the spiritual and temporal needs of the tribe. As the link between the mortal and the immortal her judgements are considered sacred and her decisions unimpeachable.
The most important responsibility of the Queen is to secure the succession of Semuanya through the daughters of the first hatch.

Responsibilities

At the end of the hunting season the Queen and the Saithin are responsible for leading the Thakanak.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The queen is easily recognizable as the only lizardfolk with a feathered Ziruthi. During royal ceremonies she wields a bone scepter carved from a crocodile's jawbone.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

While a Queen may be silenced, they can never be stripped of their title or spiritual responsibilities except through death.
