Delmoor Order Organization in Ghosts of Saltmarsh | World Anvil

Delmoor Order

The Delmoor Order is an network of religious stewards under the direction of the High Cleric of Pelor. The group consists of active monks, clerics, bards, fighters and is responsible for coordinating religious defenses throughout the material plane. They are responsible for protecting ancient knowledge and have traditionally advised political leaders on religious matters. The order is currently lead by Keeper Taa'fa ibn Ud'ha al-Ha.

Establishment

If the Destruction of the Second Age demonstrated the power of religious artifacts, the next 150 years demonstrated how quickly society forgot. After being dismissed by world leaders, Sybbyl Rowanntree met with close friends and confidants to discuss how to preserve the religious knowledge and traditions that was fading from common knowledge. Many of the known religious artifacts were no longer treated with respect and even more had faded from public knowledge.

Responsibilities

While most people associate them with the keepers at the Temple of Ebon Tide, not all members of the Delmoor Order wear cream, purple-lined robes and dedicate their lives to the archives. The Delmoor Order is responsible for maintaining the main archives in Ebon Tide, and smaller temples in Port Silverdeep and each of the six Sea Prince Islands. The Keepers at Ebon Tide are specifically responsible for identifying, collecting, and preserving sacred artifacts; writing and maintaining records related to religious knowledge and structures; spreading the light of Pelor to the surrounding communities.   The most recognized and iconic members of the order are the archivists in the Delmoor temples. Order members there are primarily responsible for maintaining the Delmoor records and maintaining religious training for aspiring order members in the areas.

Vows

Followers of Pelor take on three vows:
  1. Be ever diligent for evil. People are quick to forget the lessons of the past.
  2. Help relieve the suffering of the innocent.
  3. Deliver the light of Pelor where darkness dwells, with kindness, compassion, and mercy.
Members of the Delmoor Order take on two additional vows
  1. Record religious events without omission or fabrication
  2. Preserve powerful artifacts with care and subtlety
