Personality

Smith can best be described as "down to Earth." He's always been able to go with the flow easier than most and, even in an environment like GG's, he has no issues with adapting easily and overcoming most obstacles put in his path. Given his gratuitous advantages over the other employees, Smith tends to use his position as SiC to give back to the other employees and make life as easy on them as possible.   He's a loving husband and while his and Anabaa 's relationship is often strained, he's still madly in love with his wife and will do anything for her, even going so far as to punish the employees which he holds so dear.   He goes out of his way to try and protect the employees of GG's. Since the establishment of the club was his idea, Anabaa has made the employees and the smooth running of the club his responsibility, allowing him to adopt a bit of a "dad complex" in regards to their safety and wellbeing.

Traits, Abilities, & Skills

With so many years at GG's under his belt, Smith has gotten progressively better at running the club during Anabaa's frequent absences. Because of his earnest attempts to make life better for the employees under his command, he shares a special closeness with nearly all of them. In his spare time he's learned to play the guitar and drums, has been picking up Spanish, and every now and then he puts together model airplanes.

Common Misconduct

Smith himself is allowed far more leeway in the club on the basis that as long as GG's is operating smoothly, Anabaa doesn't much care what has to happen to keep it that way. That being said, most of Smith's misconduct stems from him trying to protect other employees and cover for their misdeeds. He tries to hear out the reasoning for incidents and find an amiable solution for all parties involved, though this can't always succeed and sometimes there's no choice but to get Anabaa involved.

Backstory

Before GG's, Smith was a farmer, working the land that he'd inherited from his parents (who had inherited it from their parents.) He'd always kept a "Well, somebody has to take care of this place" attitude about it and so he'd never found himself wanting or wishing for more.   Seemingly out of the blue, one day Smith was confronted by a young Anabaa, offering him anything in exchange for his soul. Smith said he had everything he wanted. Anabaa's response was "Well, shit." Intrigued, Smith invited Anabaa to stay at his home for the night. The night turned into several weeks as Smith learned about Anabaa, a relatively young devil who was just starting out to make a name for herself. They exchanged stories and ideas during this time, and it was at that time that the first ideas of what GG's is today was planted in Anabaa's mind. After nearly two months, Anabaa asked Smith again if there was really nothing she could offer him in exchange for his soul. Smith was adamant that there was nothing he could want for that he didn't already have. The next morning, Anabaa was gone.   Smith attempted to move on with his life, but something in him had shifted. He was changed, and his world couldn't go back to the way it was before Anabaa. After waiting to see if she would return, Smith eventually sold the farm and used the money to go searching for Anabaa. His journey lead him across the world and took two years. Even through all this time, Smith kept faith, knowing that she would appear as suddenly as she had before and this time, he had his answer ready.   Anabaa appeared to Smith again in the small hostel he was staying in, looking changed in many ways. After a bit of small talk, Anabaa again asks Smith if there's anything he wants for his soul. This time, however, Smith bent down on one knee, pulling out a ring and offering it to her. He proclaimed that yes, he would trade his soul to her, but only for her hand in marriage. Amused and taken aback, she agreed.

Break

Smith's Soul-Break occurred during the [Enforcer Blood Ritual]. As Anabaa explained the process, Smith gradually began to realize what was being asked of him and the reality of his situation was taking hold. His pivotal moment came when he realized that while he had already sold his soul, this had truly become a point of no return. Rather than breaking under the pressure, Smith hardened his will, resolving that if he truly loved Anabaa, he would be willing to do anything he could to fulfill her desires and accepting all the associated responsibility therein. His soul shifted during the ritual and his [brand] faded; he came out of the ritual changed in more ways than one but with a hardy resolution to do everything in his power to ensure Anabaa's success.

Relationships

  • Anabaa : Smith's wife; he loves her endlessly and his devotion and loyalty to her is second-to-none. He may not always agree with what she does, but at the end of the day he'll carry out her orders dutifully.
  • Chandy Baby : Smith sees Chandy as his daughter, although they have no actual blood relation. Chandy is an emotional and sexual outlet for Smith where he can engage with her in a safe and loving way that he can't with Anabaa.
  • Silaluk : Smith actively hates Silaluk, as Sila often targets Chandy as the object of his fixations. While not normally violent, Smith will make an exception when necessary when it comes to Silaluk.
  • All Employees: Smith is the one in charge of employee intake, placement, and management and as such he has a working relationship with nearly everyone at the club.
