Personality

Jalil has seen a hard life and few things now intimidate her. She’s got a quiet demeanor and chooses to keep to herself more often than not, and has rarely been seen to make friends since her break. She does not resent the lot in life she’s now drawn, choosing to live out her days quietly in Anabaa’s service and making as few waves as possible. Despite her private and reserved demeanor, she’s very witty and though Jalil rarely socializes for extended periods in public, she’s always quick with a clever joke in private.
Due to her past, she now suffers from severe hydrophobia.

Traits, Abilities, & Skills

Thanks to her long-standing position as an Entertainer, Jalil has acquired an exquisite talent for seduction and sexual satisfaction. Though her personal preference is women, she won't stop herself from engaging with (and servicing) male clientele; she takes a lot of pride in being able to put her personal thoughts aside and do her job well.
She’s got a slew of nautical knowledge, able to rattle off information at length when engaged. She’s also rather strong as well as being a gifted climber, and her long tail can crush a ribcage within seconds.

Common Misconduct

Pre-break, Jalil had many problems with authority and falling in line in GG's. She refused to take male clients and had been guilty of breaking several rules of conduct in her efforts to fight back against the conditions around her. Thankfully, her break seemed to cure her of this rebellious nature. Jalil now aims to go about serving her time at GG's while making as few problems for herself as possible, and thus is very rarely found in trouble these days.

Backstory

Jalil grew up in a land where her kind were not necessarily numerous, but not uncommon either. Ever since she had been young, she had been fascinated with the sea and, at the young age of 14, made her way west towards the seafaring cities. She worked hard aboard the ships there and, though she wasn't best suited to aquatic life, she carved herself a niche aboard the ships with her superior strength and her cutthroat nature. She became a captain aboard a pirate vessel when she was 21, and was a successful scourge of the seas for 15 years to follow. Her crew were deathly loyal and she loved them like family.
An unexpected and violent storm caused the ship to be split apart in the open seas, leaving Jalil at the mercy of a dangerously roiling ocean. From between lightning flashes, she sees Anabaa walking upon the surface of the water; tales of devils had followed the sailors of Jalil's realm and though she knew it was considered wrong, she made a deal to save her soul. Jalil agreed to give Anabaa her soul in exchange for surviving past this death. Anabaa agrees, reaching down and [branding] Jalil's neck, sealing the contract.
Rather than saving her in that moment, Anabaa watches as Jalil drowns to death and collects the soul, taking it with her back to GG's. The next memory Jalil has is of coming to consciousness in GG's.

Break

Jalil's break occurred a considerably short time after coming to GG's. While she was beginning to adjust her behavior and become more obedient, Jalil was still prone to violent lashing out, and to senior staff around her, it was clear that her time was coming.
One evening, as Jalil heads down a hallway, she is confronted by one of her ex-crewmates. This sailor she'd loved like a little brother, and Jalil was overjoyed to be reunited with him. Soon after the joyous moment, however, the young man began to ask Jalil questions about how she'd ended up in a place like this, and how she'd survived the storm. As she didn't answer, the questions became accusations, and the reality dawned on Jalil that this man now knew that she had committed a severe taboo in selling her soul to a demon. Desperately she tried to tune him out, but the man kept pushing, his words needling into Jalil and worming under her skin like plague.
In a fit of fear, guilt, and panic, Jalil coiled her tail around the sailor and killed him, choking him to death. She watched the life fade from his eyes, her own soul straining against the psychological pressure. Jalil's vision began to blur with tears and rage, and as she looked up from the broken and crushed body of her ex-crewmate, she saw Anabaa standing at the end of the hall, watching her. It was in this pivotal moment that Jalil's soul shifted, and rather than cracking, Jalil opened her mouth and spoke to Anabaa, saying that she would clean up the mess immediately.
Since that moment, Jalil's demeanor became much cooler and reserved, and she fell into line easily. Shortly after, she was promoted to Entertainer, and has been steady in her position ever since.

Relationships

• Anabaa : Jalil sees Anabaa as her superior and follows orders to the letter dutifully. As far as she is concerned, Anabaa's word is law, and Jalil has no intention of causing any further problems for her.
