Session 38 – Blood and Honey

General Summary

Theobald launches a fireball at Nugast, and is repaid with a lightning bolt by the shaman. Goltur advances and engages in a duel with Nugast’s wolf, while Enkidu sets out to track the shaman down. In response to the attack, two bijzweijn soldiers leading 21 workers are activated, along with the queen, and two more soldiers – probably her bodyguards. These two carry two honey-covered humanoid bodies, which are both dumped from a 50-foot height onto the smoldering battlefield. One of them – apparently Captain Reekers, manages to survive the fall, and limps away into the woods.
Theobald must now turn his fire against the flying assaulters. Glitterstem, for his part, summons two giant owls, before eating an enlargement mushroom and joining the fray. The big hero turns out to be Miletus, who despite his head injury, is deadly with the bow, and manages to bring down both the queen and Nugast. Theobald picks up the queen’s stinger, and Glitterstem takes Nugast’s rattles and several mushrooms. After the death of the queen, the remaining workers depart from the hive.
But the party’s losses in the battle are frightful. The two hobgoblin archers loaned by Chof both fall in the bijzweijn assault. Worse, Rahab and Hursag, who faced off against the queen and succumbed to her stinger’s poison, lie dead as well. Finally, Enkidu, after dealing with the wolf and fetching Nugast’s dead body, attends to the fallen body, which is of course Agni. He attempts to cure his brother, but to no avail – the younger half-orc’s body lies broken on the bed of scorched pine needles.
