The hero nobody wants, but everyone needs

Created by Dryant

Clayton Howard Erik Lambert (a.k.a. Clay)

Clayton is a free spirit. Charming, energetic and compassionate, his childlike sense of adventure can be felt by anyone. Although Clayton's personality is inspiring, he is socially awkward and doesn't learn as quick as others do. Clay's goal in the world is to figure out why magic is returning and what could be threatening their world. When others are too cowardly to face the strange and weird world before them, Clayton is not afraid to face the world head-on with a lunatic-like confidence to him. Even though Clayton has the makings of a leader, however, no one sees him as one.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Clay is an althetic-built young man with chestnut hair and greenish brown eyes, he is not significantly toned since he doesn't exercise so much. He has a fair complexion and seems to stand taller than most. Clayton isn't really well-endowed, but not impotent. Due him having the Elf Strain, he has long, pointed ears. Clayton acquired the Elf Strain randomly one day in 2019.   The Elf Mutation Strain (EMS) is a variant of Diasporic Mutation that is categorized as in between Minimal and Moderate Severity. It does not have any malignant symptoms thus it is considered benign overall. The Elf Strain one of the most common among the strains, and certainly the least severe. Those with the Elf Strain have long pointed ears, a minor deformity, and a longer lifespan. The strain is most often targeted towards those with slender builds and high intelligence.

Apparel & Accessories

Clayton used to wear simple clothes; canvas jeans, a T-Shirt, and a basic jacket. Since he contracted the Elf Strain, however, he has learned to look the part in this new world of magic and fantastical creatures. Clayton wears a grey sweater with navy blue skinny jeans, he also wears laced boots that reach up to his lower leg. Clayton has an army green cloak with sleeve slits for his arms. In terms of jewelry, he wears a single mood-ring on one of his fingers.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Clayton was born in a working-class family, his dad was a leadweld and his mom was a waitress. At school, he was bullied for his hobby of writing and reading fantasy as a means to escape. He kept his cheery and optimistic attitude whenever he would get his fix of fantasy games or movies. When he was home, he would stay in his room except for dinner and breakfast. Clayton was afraid of his parents taking away his fantasy things, as he gotten attached and drawn to magical worlds.   Clayton's parents; Frederick and Diana Lambert had been fighting when Diana had developed an addiction to drugs and alcohol.

"Fred, you have no idea how hard it is to be a parent to Clay! Every single day, kids bully him at school and make him feel like shit! And we can't do anything to help him! The principal told us the bullies would be punished, but he didn't do anything, Fred! No suspension, not even a stern intervention! Fred, I don't know if I can do this anymore...I love our son but life is just crushing him down, and it's making me feel helpless to do anything. I-I don't know what's going to happen to him..." - Diana Lambert, 1999
Frederick had been trying to get Diana to seek help for years, but Diana would angrily refuse to seek help. Feeling hopeless, Frederick gave up in helping his wife. One night, his dad talked to Clay about how it's okay to sometimes escape to numb the pain.
"Hey, Clay. I was just checking to see if you were doing okay...I know mom and I have been fighting a lot lately, but I just want to get your mother the help she needs. Your mom is...not well, and I've been trying to get her to see a doctor but she doesn't want to go. It just feels so hard to get to your mom these days...Clayton, it's okay to be alone sometimes. We all need alone time when we need it.... Alright, I'll leave you to your drawings. Goodnight, my boy..." - Frederick Lambert, 2004
His dad committed suicide when Clayton was thirteen. Clayton's mom never recovered from her grief, as she became quiet and hollow. Diana did, however, quit her addictions after the loss of her husband. Clayton had to support her when she couldn't go to work anymore. Clayton's mother died in her sleep when Clayton graduated high school. After that, Clayton moved out on his own and went to college, but taking that interested him even though they would do little for a career.

Clayton went to Galahad College, enrolling into a course in Journalism, he is still taking this course but has second thoughts on its effectiveness in the real world. The only take-away from the course was that journalists were highly competitive at getting jobs.

For most of his teenage and young adult life, Clayton has worked as a coffee barista to make ends meet. However, minimum wages has Clayton to barely make enough to live sustainably on his own.

Mental Trauma

Clayton was bullied in school, which made his self-esteem weaken and sank into a mild depression. The most traumatic experience in his life was finding out from the police that his father had committed suicide one day. Clayton has managed to get through the trauma, but it still lingers in his mind sometimes.

Intellectual Characteristics

Clayton is quite special when it comes to intelligence, he can tell someone about anything except the answers to math problems. Philosophy, esoteric concepts and anything relating to culture, history or humanity Clayton knows. He also knows some science and biology. Clayton is considered a genius by those who know him, but these skills overpower his social skills.

Morality & Philosophy

Clayton strives to be a good person, he acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society.

Personality Characteristics

Clayton seeks to be a good person and fulfill himself. He wants to find excitement, adventure and wonder in the world. Not only that, but he eventually wants to find love as well. All the boredom, gloom and sadness from his childhood has made Clayton wanted more out of life, seeking a purpose.

Likes & Dislikes

Clayton likes playing tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, and he also like writing and LARPing. He dislikes bullies and those who pick on people for no reason, and he absolutely hates being in the middle of drama as he sees as so unecessary in certain situations that it shouldn't be their first priority.

Hmm. While the information provided here is far from meaningless, it seems to distinctively stop short of the 'meaty bit'. That being the part with the magic and whatnot. How did he get to be trying to figure out why magic is returning? Why is he an elf?
ab insane confidence to him
Also, this sentence doesn't make sense.

Thanks, I've fixed those errors.

I feel like this article would benefit from more quotations an excerpts from people who've interacted with Clayton. I think it would bring him to life and make it feel like he's a person that actually exists. I do like how much of his life and personality you do convey in a relatively short article, just feel like it could be expanded upon a bit.   How did Clayton acquire the Elf Strain? Was it truly random? And at that point what is the Elf Strain? A disease? A condition? I don't see a link or description here so I'm curious. It feels like this could make for quite the interesting story.

The Elf Strain is described in Diasporic Mutation, but I will add the description to the article.

I would say like Base that the information is clear and proper, but it doesn't really "build" on the world or the character that much. I'd recommend maybe making use of speech or giving a famous quote of the guy to ensure we can learn about the character. Maybe also add physical descriptions for any special quirks, since I notice he has a "mutation" condition. Also, why did his father commit suicide? Was there anything that lead to the man doing so?

Thanks! I will answer your questions in the article momentarily!
